Motorola W385, new LG Chocolates live on Verizon {Engadget Mobile}
Jul 10th 2007 4:59PM Here is my response. Since it is lengthy, I will divide it into sections.
1. The UI
You said that the vast majority of users enjoy the common UI. I beg to differ, because you should have said that all users enjoy the common UI.However, don't misinterpret what I'm saying. There's an equally large amount of people who hate the common UI and have left VZW because of it; thus they have stopped being "users of the common UI". To tell you the truth, there are no users who dislike the common UI because they have left in disgust.
As far as the flash UI goes, it really isn't "different". Sure it gets rid of those bars, but can you actually reorder the menu icons? No. Does it do anything besides changing the color and the effects? No. Can you make your own themes? No.
And what's the point in getting a new phone when the menu looks the same? Not much, and it pretty much eliminates the thrill you get when you get a new phone.
2. Innovation
As far as the Shine series being "innovative", there's nothing really innovative about a phone with:
A)a crappy WAP browser
B)a 2 MP camera (Samsung can back me up on that with their 8 MP Asian phones)
C)crappy MMS messaging where you can't send song clips back and forth
D)the menu you call customizable because you can change colors and effects
E)the fact you can't use this phone out of the good ole' US of A (sure they have CDMA in Asia, but I highly doubt there's a company over there that will let you change ESN's, and I believe they don't use BREW over there).
3. "Versatile-ness"
Here is what you said "or how about the many new features you cna get on more phones, Email options, navigation, mobile IM...they continue to lead the pack with most versitile phones."
1)Email options are available on all phones, I'm sorry but they don't lead the pack in that.
2)Why would you pay for navigation? Use MapQuest. Leading the pack is iffy on that.
3)Mobile IM is available on nearly every phone today. Plus, many have GoogleTalk... so, Verizon doesn't lead the pack there either.
4)Verizon does not have the most versatile phones. They are money makers for verizon with Get It Now icons everywhere. Then, there's the menu. You can't change the basic layout (you can in Motorola's JUIX interface), you can't change folder names (you can in Motorola's JUIX interface), and you can't move folders anywhere (you can in Motorola's JUIX interface). Plus, they don't allow you to send MMS messages with song attachments, and the majority of phones do not have all the bluetooth profiles enabled.
4. Haters?
You mention haters complaining blindly "without any research". Well, all of my arguments are presented with research, and every bit is true (and contradicts everything you say). Plus, I believe you are the one trying to support your own company blindly. The last time I checked, most Verizon phones do NOT have fully unlocked Bluetooth, and Flash UI's just plain suck- have you ever used an actual manufacturer's interface? To compare one of their interface's to verizon's is an insult (to the manufacturer).
Thus everything you have said has been disproven by myself. I can, however, tell you one thing verizon DOES HAVE...

iPhone stress test: how did it do? {Engadget Mobile}
Jun 30th 2007 3:49PM Dude Mark, that's because the people you saw were probably very obese... by 100+ pounds!!!! Glass doesn't crack that easily, why don't you try to sit down on an iPod sized piece of glass on a subway seat. Oh that's right, I'm sorry, you'll jump through the roof if it breaks as a result of the glass going into your rear end. Thus, I conclude you are lying, because if people actually sat down on their iPods and they broke, your city would have a major subway train derailment problem. Plus, I'm in the subway sitting on my iPod which is in my back pocket right now and I can assure you that it hasn't broken, nor have I gone through the roof.

AT&T's new text plans not quite unlimited {Engadget Mobile}
Apr 10th 2007 5:23PM theburn16, this is a rate hike, despite what cingular wants you to think...
the explanation:
it is a rate hike because although prices are dropping, so are the data rates. so thus, you have to pay more for the same data usage...
Verizon ready to snatch up Alltel? {Engadget Mobile}
Feb 27th 2007 8:59PM Elgee, I can't disagree with that. You've got a pretty good point there...
Jake, what you're talking about when you refer to the different UI's is really the skin.
And Michael, My Circle isn't just for people within your own network, so actually there would still be a "need" for it; Verizon might not think so though.
By the way, Cingular does not have a universal UI on all their phones (which is ignorance #1)
The other ignorance happens to be you saying that "there's barely any blocking". That's nonsense, every carrier blocks a crapload of features on the phones they sell, Verizon included.
Please don't diss others when they can diss you back for the same thing :)
Verizon ready to snatch up Alltel? {Engadget Mobile}
Feb 26th 2007 7:01PM elgee, you're listing all the profiles you DO have, but what about the countless ones Verizon disables? And you list txt, pix, and flix messaging, yet you lack the capability to send ringtones to another phone...
You also talk about all the people who don't bitch about the verizon UI, but that's only because the people who would bitch about it took their business elsewhere. The majority of people that don't bitch about it don't know how to use the phone (note... majority). Plus, the Verizon UI is just gay, your ringtones are listed under "Get it Now", which shows how desperate Verizon is to get your money.
