Nov 8th 2009 4:03PM The coverage comparison is not actually an "informative one" as you say. If you go read about the lawsuit between AT&T and VZW it's explained that the map they use for AT&T is just the 3G map and doesn't show that the spots not covered by 3G are actually covered by the vast 2G network that AT&T has. According to the same article, the map that VZW uses shows their network which is ONLY 3G. So in contrast to the AT&T map, the blank spots on the VZW map is a lack of any coverage at all. That's the point of the lawsuit. The company I work for uses Verizon and AT&T, and when someone who has a verizon phone can't get service at in their home, they are switched to an AT&T phone which works great. They use verizon because of the discount they get from VZW, but when users can't actually get service where they live they go to an AT&T phone.

Nov 8th 2009 3:49PM To second what Andy Anonymous said, RadioShack will have lower prices for the iPhone. I used to work there a few years ago, and a friend of mine works there now, and they still have the lowest prices on AT&T phones. They have more "Free with contract" phones than any AT&T store I've ever been to. Their accessories are cheaper than AT&T stores too, and they're they same accessories. I went to an AT&T store to find a microSD card for my Tilt, and the cheapest card was a 2GB for around $30. I went to RadioShack and got one for $15 (at the time was the lowest price). I went to an AT&T store to help my friend get a phone and when she couldn't find one there, we went to RadioShack (like I wanted to first) and found phones for free that the AT&T store was charging a few hundred dollars for.
RadioShack has their own rebates along with the AT&T rebates for new contracts, so it may very well be that you can get the iPhone from RadioShack for next to nothing.

Nov 2nd 2009 4:13AM Hey, someone who actually bothered to read the info on the program from their site instead of just jumping to conclusions and sounding stupid. I was going to post pretty much the same thing you did after reading all of the comments of people saying "can't you do the same thing with XP" and "Macs have been doing this for years" lol. I'll find this pretty damn useful since I can now tether my phone to my netbook running windows 7 and then connect my PSP to my netbook. The PSP can only connect to access points for internet and not Ad-hoc connections. Pretty handy when I'm at work and I want to do some online gaming in my downtime XD

Oct 18th 2009 4:17PM Because there wouldn't be much money to be made that way. The same could be said for power as well. There's no point in using straight 240 in Europe, but when American travelers go overseas you would have to get a power converter and power plug adapters. Same with the citizens in those countries that travel to the US. They would need converters for the plugs, but they may even have to buy new devices to work with the US 110. With two standards for television, you would have your moble tuner that worked here in the US, but when you went to Asia, you'd have to buy a new one to use there and vice versa. If it was all standardized there would be less people making money all around.

Oct 18th 2009 4:11PM Hey now maybe in the US we can get what Japan has had for YEARS. Damn near all of their phones have seg1 tuners. Hell they even have a tv tuner for the PSP. I'd love to be able to watch broadcast television on my phone. I stream videos over the net with my phone, but I'd like to have a tuner so it wouldn't be dependant on the data transfer.

The original story here on engadget showed this one and another one where the gamer was giving a heart transplant to Joan of Arc. He isn't getting a transfusion FROM the soldier, he is GIVING blood to him. The soldier is Erwin Rommel (aka the Desert Fox). From his wikipedia page:
Rommel is considered to have been a chivalrous and humane officer, in contrast with many other figures of Nazi Germany. His famous Afrikakorps was not accused of any war crimes. Soldiers captured during his Africa campaign were reported to have been largely treated humanely. Furthermore, he defiantly ignored orders to kill captured Jewish soldiers and civilians out of hand in all theaters of his command.
Late in the war, Rommel joined the conspiracy against Adolf Hitler, but opposed the failed 20 July Plot of 1944 to kill the dictator. Because of his great prestige, Hitler allowed him to commit suicide. He was buried with full military honors, but the real reason for his death didn't come to light until the Nuremberg Trials.
I think the ads were meant to convey giving life to the historical characters through gaming. The characters portrayed in the ads were "good" historical characters too. I'm sure there was a reason they used Rommel instead of Hitler. lol If anyone has played Call of Duty 5, you can play AS the Nazis. I think the only people getting offended are those that don't know about the ads themselves. Click the link to go to the site for the company that made them (link in original article) and read what they say about the ads. They clearly state who the German soldier is. If you don't know who Rommel was or anything about him then of course the ad wouldn't make sense. Someone even posted on the Copyranter site that they were offended until they looked up information on Rommel and found out who he was. Then they weren't offended by the ads and they even made more sense. I guess the ad company forgot that the world is full of stupid people that are quick to judge on first impressions without bothering to understand the subject matter first.

Obviously you didn't read my post well enough. I didn't say that everyone who cuts me off, or drives poorly does so because they are one the phone. I said that in the recent instances where that happened to me, they were on the phone.

Wow....I drove a standard for around 12 years until i hurt my left foot and could no longer drive a standard, and once I get on the freeway and would hit 5th gear I took my hand off the shifter. I guess my reaction time was always fast enough that if I ever needed to quickly downshift or go into neutral, I could without needing my hand constantly on the shifter.

So how long HAVE you been studying psychology?? Because I've got about 5 years of psychology studies under my belt and multitasking is NOT "inherently fake". It's said that for most people who multitask a lot, they're just bad at it. Mainly because they can't concentrate specifically on one task and all tasks suffer for it. I can talk on the phone and drive at the same time with no problems. I'm constantly aware of my surroundings while driving if I'm on the phone or not. It has to do with how your brain divides the thought processes. If someone can't multitask and they choose to talk on the phone while driving, one of the two tasks will suffer. Either their driving will go to crap (ie not being aware they are slowing down or speeding, unaware of other drivers around them, etc), or their conversation will suffer. I'll be on the phone with someone and if I start to hit bad traffic or start to encounter a lot of bad drivers, I know I will need to divert more attention to driving than is possible while also on the phone. So I get off the phone. Same goes for talking to someone sitting right next to you in a car. If I'm trying to concentrate on driving to avoid hazards, I will stop talkig to the other person. If you can't concentrate on driving AND carry on a conversation on the phone or otherwise, then shut up and drive. lol

Sep 6th 2009 5:22AM This article is pretty ignorant. It's not a small victory that the usage is down. As it's been mentioned, there are states that make it illegal to drive without a hands-free device whether it be a bluetooth or wired headset. I use my headset all the time except when I'm at home. Hell even when I'm at home I use it sometimes. I'll have my phone on the charger in my bedroom and I'll be in the living room, and when I get a call I may not want to have to go to the room to get my phone. I might not even hear it ring. I'll have my headset on, so I hear it ring and can answer it from the other room. When I'm driving it is a LOT better to have a headset. I have a dash-mounted phone holder that I use when I drive. I use my phone for a gps and the mount makes it just like any other car gps. When I get a call I don't have to divert attention to the phone trying to find it (or get it out of my pocket) to find out who is calling and to answer the phone. I just push the button on my headset and put both hands back on the wheel.
Whoever says that driving without holding a phone isn't any safer than driving WHILE holding the phone apparently has never been on the road behind the people holding phones to their ear while driving. On my way to work the other day I passed a person doing 20 miles an hour under the limit in the fast lane of the freeway, and she was on the phone. I had someone cut me off as well as two other drivers, he was totally oblivious to what was going on around him, and he was on the phone with it up against his ear. If you're not using a headset and you're holding the phone to your head, that's one less hand on the steering wheel. If you're not using your hand to hold the phone against your ear (ie using your shoulder with your head tilted against it) then you obviously can't have a good view of everything around you. You're also concentrating more on holding your phone and then when you drop it, most people will try to pick it up while driving which causes more driving hazards.
I also use my headset while I'm at work. I'll have my phone plugged in at my desk and since I use a phone headset for my job (it support) I can answer my cell phone and it looks like i'm on my work phone. I'm not really supposed to take personal calls during work, and someone will say something if I even look like I'm using my cell. With my BT headset no one can tell a thing.
When I go out and I'm in public with my headset on, I actually have my phone out of my holder 90% of the time and make it quite apparent to others that I'm actually on the phone. I also don't get into a conversation with someone and answer the phone while talking to them without saying something like "Hand on a second, I have to take this call", or something to that affect. I also don't walk up to someone while I'm on the phone and look right at them as though I'm talking to them. That's just plain rude.

Even after people comment that it's for the engadget show, there are still comments asking if it's a phone or the apple tablet O_o....if you can't see the video at least read the comments so you don't look like and idiot when you post yours.
