Engadget's back to school giveaway, part 3! {Engadget}

Sep 14th 2009 4:05PM I love that Canadians have to answer a math question. What happens if they get it wrong?

Aug 1st 2009 8:15PM To fix the world economy, we need to abolish money and go back to the barter system.

May 2nd 2009 1:59PM Robo - forgot to mention...nice GI Joe reference.

T-Mobile UK apparently being pressured to merge or bust {Engadget}

May 2nd 2009 1:54PM Interesting question for Vodafone...do they try to snap up the UK operation of T-Mobile to improve their position in the UK or do they wait out T-Mobile's weakness and hope that T-mobile is willing to sell its US operation? Voda would jump at the chance to get out of the Verizon deal and gain a real presence in the US.

May 2nd 2009 1:49PM Robo, you got it backwards - the 900 frequency has better penetration than the 1800. The weak O2 signals were probably just due to a poor coverage area.

Vodafone's Vittorio Colao dreams up "unbeatable" alliance around LTE {Engadget Mobile}

Jan 30th 2009 6:19AM Engadget should expect better from its writers. Until the world government is formed, you can't have collusion between companies in different markets. And how is this idea zany? Vodafone working with alliance partners to keep procurement and service creation costs down will help the companies remain competitive - with benefit for the customer. It's exactly what Vodafone should be (actually, should have been) doing.

Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1, how would you change it? {Engadget Mobile}

Dec 29th 2008 5:37AM I've had the X1i for about a month now and here's what I would change --

1. flat screen - the lip makes it hard to select items along the edge without the stylus
2. add the underscore key to the blue buttons -- actually add lots more "symbol" options to the unused keys
3. better bounce-back on the keypad - the keys stick a bit when you press them
4. accelerometer
5. proximity sensor when making calls to turn off the key pad and turn it on when you move the phone away from your face
6. no screen timeout during calls

Psion says it's only going after those "profiting" from the term netbook {Engadget}

Dec 29th 2008 5:31AM Bloggers need not fear, the use of netbook in advertising/blogging is perfectly legal. Just like Pepsi can say "we're better than Coke" any computer company can place a banner adword using netbook. Psion does have a case with companies who sell low cost computers as netbooks. Netbook may become a generic term (as Q-tip, Xerox and Kleenex did), but that doesn't mean that Psion doesn't have the right to enforce their trademark. Blog sites are also protected by the safe harbor section of the DMCA. If Psion wants to sue someone for advertising, they will have to go after the owner of the ad, not the hosting company.
