Spy Video: Porsche Cayman Shooting Brake caught on camera phone? {Autoblog}

Jul 8th 2009 8:22PM haha Jei maybe you should get your eyes checked. that is probably the worst CGI I've seen of a car. it's completely CGI and not even a good job. if you think that's a real car, you have some sight problems my friend.

New York: BMW pulls sheet off X6 M {Autoblog}

Apr 8th 2009 6:42PM Hahah most of you should really just shut up because you couldn't even afford half of this X6 M. and by the way why are you even comparing it to a ZDX? haha... the X6 is only similar to the ZDX but way better... and u compare the M version to it?

You think the ZDX is good looking?! ya ok, maybe when the styling of an F-117 stealth aircraft was in style for a car.... so like, NEVER! and what's with the arrow shaped front and rear of the new Acura designs? WTF mate! UGLY as F*CK!

New York: Acura ZDX aimed squarely at BMW X6 {Autoblog}

Apr 8th 2009 2:49PM wow. this is HORRIBLE! in no way does it compete with the X6. This just looks like someone grabbed something really ugly to start with and added lines to it with the intent to make it nice but it's ugly. i can't believe someone passed this design. what is with the arrow shaped front and rear on the new Acura vehicles? I can't say how bad the outside design is, possibly worse than the Pontiac Aztec.

New vehicle wraps claim to increase fuel economy by as much as 25% {Autoblog}

Feb 16th 2009 11:39AM @ Nick

I have no idea where you heard they wrap Jumbo Jets in rough shark skin. That's just completely untrue. I've been reading a lot of ridiculous stuff in these comments about flying and ppl talking about things they have no idea about.

The bumps on these wind turbines would be smooth, and I don't really know what you're talking about with the wind turbines, but to relate it to an airplane, there are things called flaps, slots, slats that extend from the wing and help guide the air around the wing more smoothly when flying at lower speed. I'm guessing the bump you're referring to might be there to help the air flow more efficiently or to create more power?

No I don't have my degree in engineering but as a pilot you study a lot of stuff on theory of flight. You have to know all your hydraulic systems, electrical systems, EVERYTHING in the aircraft you have to know, besides maybe how to operate the entertainment system for the passengers. It's kinda ridiculous that hollywood can't even get one movie correctly depicting who and what a pilot does. Everytime I see a movie with a pilot or airplane or air traffic control in it, it's so unbelievably cheesy. I saw one where the pilot was cleared to land runway like 42, runways only go up to 36 because it's based on magnetic heading which would be 360 degrees. They consult real SWAT teams when they do a scene in a movie but can't seem to get the whole flying and pilot thing down.

Anyways, so if someone actually does have some credible background and knows a bit about this subject I'd love to hear from you and see what you think about the whole deal.

yes the dimples on the golf ball do in fact help the aerodynamics of the golf ball and accompanied by back spin will actually produce lift. i'll get into that in a sec but i should first point out that the so called dimpling would not be on the windshield but would start at the front of the roof, correct? well the velocity of the air on the highway (mostly where you would be affected by the aerodynamics) would be very high and considering the angle of change between the windshield and the roof, wouldn't be able to stay "glued" to the surface and therefore wouldn't really get ANY effect from the dimpling on the surface of the roof as it would turn to turbulence almost immediately. if they reduced the angle it might work better. back to the golf ball, you have to take into account that this is a ball, nothing like the shape of a car. like i said before, airplanes are the most similar thing to cars and trust me, dimples on an airplane would be a huge problem. for the golf ball to get lift, it needs back spin. the back spin, since the dimples help hold the air to the surface of the ball, will then speed up the air over the top of the golf ball and slow down the air over the bottom of the golf ball. as speed increases, pressure decreases and vise-versa. therefore you get a high pressure on the bottom and a low pressure on top, as all pressures in a system will try to equalize, the high pressure will try to flow to the low and lift the golf ball up. this dimple application works on a golf ball very well but the golf ball is VERY different from an airplane or car. the best way to get air flowing well under a car is to have a flat, smooth underbody and diffusers (which are very similar to wing fences on an airplane). if you study it more and look at all the aerodynamics and technology that they put on race cars and such, you will notice a lot of similarities to airplanes.
