Google developing free navigation app? {Engadget}

Oct 28th 2009 4:12PM The GPS is updated in real time. You can see upcoming turns. It just doesn't explicitly say turn right, left, etc. If you turn off the annoying voice on GPS anyways, it's not much different except for maybe telling how close the next turn is, but you can still figure it out by looking at the screen.

FCC keen on commandeering TV spectrum for wireless broadband {Engadget}

Oct 28th 2009 11:37AM The govt would like nothing more than to force people onto cable or sat because then they can tax you again in the bill.

US government lays out cash for wall-based, in-home 'smart meters' {Engadget}

Oct 27th 2009 5:23PM And guess who pays the utilities: you and I. It's not like it gets absorbed from their profits.So our electric bill goes up because the public housing two cities over go these installed, and the residents don't care because they don't pay the bill in the first place.

Did you read your comment before posting?

Yes, the money has been set aside...from a funding source that doesn't exist in the first place. I also would like to say that I have set aside 1 million dollars to buy things next year, but just don't look for it in my bank account.

Oct 27th 2009 5:11PM Well, it looks like you just volunteered yourself to go to engineering school and invent the future. I mean, if it's so simple.

Oct 27th 2009 5:08PM He's not diminishing the tech in these things. He's calling out the fact that the govt is pulling the funding for these things out of thin air. And you figure knowing this administration they will give them to a bunch of people who are too stupid to know how to use any of the features anyways. So it just becomes another device wasting power.

Instead of, oh I don't know, having electric companies give incentives to people who install them themselves on maybe their electric bills, or even a tax write off. At least the device is paid for by people who will want and therefore more likely be able to use them appropriately and truly save some power/money.

Oct 27th 2009 5:03PM If you have GPS on your phone, and ATT doesn't lock it like Verizon, Google Maps Mobile already does this. Why would anyone pay the $10 fee?

Oct 27th 2009 4:57PM You could tell the people in the projects that aren't paying for their heat to not set their thermostats to 80. Or even force it lower with governors. My dad is a pipefitter and his company has a government contract to change filters in projects. He has it is ridiculous how they do whatever with the thermostat and then still complain about being cold. But what do they care, it's already paid for with things such as our wonderful stimulus.

I mean, they don't have to pay the mortgage anymore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P36x8rTb3jI

Netflix for PlayStation 3 requires a disc, software solution coming late 2010 {Engadget HD}

Oct 26th 2009 10:28PM This is probably going to keep me using the 360 until the software solution is out. Then I may reconsider as I like my PS3 as my "all-in-one movies" machine, in addition to some fine games in the recent months.

Toshiba's BDX2000 Blu-ray deck hits Best Buy for $199, sour grapes also on sale {Engadget HD}

Oct 26th 2009 10:25PM So how is MFM going to deny this one? I'm not a troll, but I can't resist busting chops this one time.

I believe when Toshiba made the announcement after months of MFM claiming the rumors were not true, something along the lines of "I'll believe it when it's on the shelves" was said...

Ahem...
