AT&T Quickfire is, as promised, available {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 11th 2008 6:56PM anyone know if you can turn the 3g off on this phone? just curious, because i live in a "fringe" service area and would rather have the 3g off, than keep losing calls when it transfers from 3g to edge.

iPhone firmware 2.0 is live (plus hands-on) {Engadget}

Jul 10th 2008 11:42AM I tried to check for an iTunes update, but it tells me that the "current version 7.6.2 is the current version" Any ideas?

Verizon to offer open network details next month {Engadget Mobile}

Feb 27th 2008 10:21AM And that I can openly agree with. Don't get me wrong, I love Verizon, but look what it does to it's handsets. And no, the iPhone isn't the most "non-crippled" phone available, but like I said before, it suits my purposes. And I love the UI. So for me, seeing as how service is about the same with both where I live/travel, that was was enough to make the switch.

Feb 26th 2008 10:43PM AT&T and Verizon are both pretty good. Granted, each one has their own dead spots, I've had about the same amount of luck with each provider. As far as customer service goes, well, they've both been equally helpful, and equally a pain. I think it's a crap shoot depending on where you live for reception, and who you catch on a good/bad day with the customer service.

Feb 26th 2008 8:09PM I didn't use the data on Verizon anyway. It was too expensive for me with my xv6800. Service coverage is similar with both in my area, and surrounding areas. Even better with AT&T when I'm visiting my relatives up north. I like both carriers, equally as well. As far as it goes, I wanted to try something non Windows based, and the iPhone looked cool, and I've read a lot of good things about it. Granted I've also read some downsides about it, and the AT&T services, but for what I'm using it for, it works wonderfully. I was with Verizon for 9 years. I didn't think it would hurt to try out another carrier. And so far, no regrets. Even with the lack of 3G, so far I'm not disappointed with my choice.

Feb 26th 2008 12:12PM Verizon customer service rep told me that they were allowing them now, when I told her I was going to a different carrier for the "better phones and plans." She told me about their unlimited plan and the fact that they now offer support for any other compatible handset. Still no iPhone support, so I moved to AT&T anyway. :-P

Verizon upping per-text rates {Engadget Mobile}

Jan 9th 2008 2:16PM It does work. And VZWguy is correct. Think about it. It's a business. Every company is going to eventually follow suit, no matter whether it's Verizon, Sprint, or one of the other carriers that does it first. They're all about making money, while trying their hardest to make it seem like they're "looking out for the consumer." Just about every phone company is going to jump on board. And granted, they each have their benefits (i.e. Verizon has the best service where I live...sadly) but each one has equal or greater downfalls as well (i.e. I waited for over a year for a phone to come out on the Verizon network, that was released on other carriers long ago). All in all, the "get outta jail free card" brought up by the upcoming hike in txt rates, will only land you in another institution.
