How would you change Dell's Studio XPS 13 / 16? {Engadget}
May 2nd 2009 3:39PM Yeah, uh... buddy, Macs are the "templates" idiots like you.
OH PLEASE, TELL ME WHY I HAVEN'T YET SWITCHED FROM MY CRAPPY PC TO
THE GOD OF ALL COMUPTERS - THE MAC?
Oh yeah, that's right - I actually know something about computers. AND I'm not in the demographic of college sorority girls who want the prettiest computer on the market.
Plus, those of us who are laughing the hardest are the ones who use GNU/Linux OS's. Ah yes, my infinite array of options far out performs your choice-less fashion statement of a machine.
Sincerely,
Someone who wasn't conceived by cousin-parents.

AT&T confirms contract-free $599 / $699 iPhone 3Gs for next week {Engadget Mobile}
Mar 19th 2009 9:46PM And, I know this because I did worked at AT&T until I was laid off 2 months ago.
AT&T confirms contract-free $599 / $699 iPhone 3Gs for next week {Engadget Mobile}
Mar 19th 2009 9:44PM That's not true. AT&T only requires that you return the phone if you cancel within the first 30 days. There is nowhere in the contract that tells you AT&T wants the phone back if you cancel the phone after 30 days. Thus, if someone at AT&T told you that you must return your phone (when you have cancelled after the first 30 days), you can tell them to kiss the hairiest part of your ass. They have no legal right - especially if you have already shelled out the $175-200 ETF. If what you said was the case, there would be a huge backlash against the company - and AT&T knows this.
AT&T's ETF is now set at $200. Most companies have it set at that now. That being said, AT&T has a prorated ETF - so if you wait a couple of months you could save a whopping $10. It does make a hell of a lot more sense at first, to buy the phone for $199, cancel, and end up only paying about $399... unfortunately, it's not as simple as that. You will owe them at least $36 for the activation fee, and another $60+ for the first month of service. Also, if you're one of the unlucky ones that waits a week after the first month to cancel - you'll be stuck with an unfairly prorated bill for the next month.
Though an extra $75-100 in my pocket is enough for me to do such a thing.
Apple confirms presence of proprietary chip in shuffle headphones, licensing fee {Engadget}
Mar 16th 2009 5:03PM I don't think you really understand. Apple is - in fact - making it optional, BUT the catch 22 is that the device will be almost completely useless without this "third party" controller chip. Though allowing only "Apple only" proprietary hardware is the company's forte, so this doesn't surprise me one bit. Remember the first gen iPhone? The recessed 3.5 mm jack? To be fair, this is common among many brands.
I would be pissed if I knew the shuffle had a decent market demand. I worked in electronics sales at a fairly busy store, and I can tell you that in the year and a half I worked there, I sold TWO shuffles. Both people I sold them to were looking to gift them. The rest of our inventory sat on the shelf until they went on clearance (then sat for about six months longer). Personally, I think the shuffle is a joke. I can put an 8 GB microSD (which will run you only $25-45) in my phone and make it more functional than the shuffle (full color screen, more storage, ect.), for about half the price. Granted, not everyone has a phone with a music player.
The sharp truth is that Apple has reached a point where they ALMOST have a monopoly on the digital music player market. Think about it - I defy you to find at least two people out of the people you know who have a Samsung, iRiver, Sandisk, or god forbid - a Zune mp3 player! Nope, apparently iPods are the only way to go. And (of course) they're not going to give you what you want unless they know they'll have you by the balls for at least a year (until the next model line comes out). I can only hope that the cell phone manufacturers can increase the quality of their integrated digital players to boost competitive demand. I'm getting real sick of Apples shenanigans.
Sony pulls 2.40 firmware update after reports of bricked PS3s {Engadget}
Jul 2nd 2008 9:28PM @Prokanda: "feels icky being wrong, doesn't it?"
Are you fucking kidding me? You didn't state a single fact! How the hell are you "right"?! All you did was state an ill-informed opinion that gave me a hell of a laugh!
I'm just going to sit here and enjoy my cell processor, embedded internal wifi, MGS4, and free online play, but... don't worry, I'm sure the other systems have all that, right? Ahh, yeah that's nice.
And yes, that's my opinion! There is no "wrong!"
T-Mobile launches WiFi-laden BlackBerry Pearl 8120, we handle it {Engadget Mobile}
Apr 14th 2008 8:31PM Actually, I take that back -
By technicality, Verizon and Sprint's BlackBerry devices have 3G, but that's of an EVDO flavor. What I meant was all of the GSM BB 8XXX series devices do not have 3G support (yes, even the European BB 8XXX's are without it).

Apr 14th 2008 8:27PM @Duke:
It's not T-Mobile, it's RIM. None of the 8XXX series BB's have 3G support - for ANY network. Besides, T-Mobile doesn't exactly have a full 3G network deployment yet anyway. Although, I just got this phone today and I must say the WiFi radio makes me not even care about the lack of 3G. I love this thing! The HotSpot at home is F**Kin' sweet! I was skeptical at first, but the clarity is amazing. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well TMO has pulled this off.

Apr 4th 2008 4:00AM @clak
ahh, let me get my composure here...
ok, there we go. sorry, i was just laughing so hard. i cannot believe the stupidity. am i the only one who thinks its hilarious that clak started up with "microsoft fanboys" shit, when clearly the only fanboy in this thread is the apple fanboy (ahem, clak again)? frankly (even as a linux enthusiast), i must defend microsofts side in the whole "copy-cat" thing. god, i really don't think you will understand how hard most of us are laughing at you right now. and by the way ITS FIVE CAMERAS ONE GODDAMN FUCKING PROJECTOR. GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK-ASS SKULL.
["Because not everyone salivates and loosens their jaw at the jiggling of the iPhone or Apple's proverbial zipper, that's why."
But the question is, why not? Even the Coen Brothers love Apple:http://blog.wired.com/cultofmac/2007/04/coen_brothers_f.html]
dear god, i didn't think you were serious for a minute there.
shhh... wait... i'm waiting for the sound of anyone who cares... **crickets**...**crickets**...
anyone?
yep, that's what i figured.
Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 launched into beta, our hearts {Engadget}
Mar 21st 2008 3:08PM Motivated? Don't you mean idiotic? Am I the only one who thinks that's just stupid? I'm sorry, but I just like using a stable operating system without major security flaws, and programs that work on my older machine -without having to "ctrl+alt+del" for the crappy task manager when applications constantly freeze. I also like being able to change just about every aspect of my system to my liking. Games? That's what my PS3/XBOX 360 is for. I can't argue about gaming, yeah you pretty much have to have DX 9 or DX 10 to run decent games, but that's not what I use my computer for.
Compatibility? The only reasons programs aren't "compatible" with Linux, is because manufacturers don't want to invest time or money to create their software or drivers for an operating system that only a fraction of the population uses. The truth is, if more people used Linux, we would have exponentially more software and fully supported hardware. That's not an flaw of the operating system, that's a flaw of the manufacturers. Hell, let's take it one step further... shall we? Linux users were so MOTIVATED, they created a complete solution for users who wanted to use Windows based programs on their Linux box - WINE. Yes, it's true that not all programs will work in WINE, but it's constantly being updated.
But yeah, you're right. I should be paying $249 for an operating system, because that way I can be a REAL consumer and flood the call centers in Bombay when I can't figure out how to open the DVD drive, or click on an .exe file.
