Official: iPod nano reaches 4G, looks tall for its age {Engadget}
Sep 9th 2008 2:27PM Hmmm, I'll wait till the Nano's have wireless bluetooth capabilities for syncing and listening.
Really only use it for the gym, so battery life is not a big issue to me. Even if it were cut in half from usage--12 hrs instead of 24 hrs of audio--that would last me a weekend trip w/o having to bring my charger at 4hrs a day. Which is more than enough for me.
Poll: Do you still visit the store for movie rentals? {Engadget HD}
Aug 8th 2008 2:18PM I gotta jump in here because the industries try to equate copy-right infringement with stealing. But there's a big difference.
You state:
"What you are doing is absolutely no different than shoplifting from Best Buy."
No its not. The fundamental difference is that if I take a DVD from Best Buy. They can no longer sell that physical item anymore. That is stealing.
Downloading over bit-torrent doesn't impede Best Buy from selling that DVD. They still own that DVD. They can still profit off that DVD. The person who downloaded the torrent is infringing on the studios copyright.
Similar to when your dad taped the Super Bowl or movies from HBO on his VHS despite the warnings of the announcers. Hell, Tivo-ing is more similiar to Torrenting than "Stealing from Best Buy" is to Torrenting.
You need a new mirror.
Georgia teen arsonists allegedly learned from GTA {Joystiq}
Aug 8th 2008 12:19PM Yes, the blame game has been attached to every new medium of art & entertainment. Films, music, paintings, sculptures, theater, etc...
Too long to list the many different events, but I would argue, it was much more dangerous back then than it is today.
Nowadays, somebody tries to blame something like video games for crime and you get blogosphere and public opinion coming to the defense.
Freeman Not Ready for His Close Up After Wreck {TMZ}
Aug 4th 2008 4:15PM Why is everyone praying for God?
Didn't you watch Bruce Almighty? Morgan Freeman IS God.
Carrie to Fantasia: How's the Hoopty? {TMZ}
May 21st 2008 5:12PM Actually, color AND talent don't have as much to with it than stage presence. Fantasia doesn't have this.
Rueben had it, but his old ties held him back. Friends suing him, etc...he should have had a better fate.
Taylor was good for a gimmick or two, but he can't carry a tune.
Show is called American IDOL, not America's Best Singer. You need the look, the personality, some talent, and something that makes you stand apart from the rest.
Americans relying more heavily on their credit cards {BloggingStocks}
May 9th 2008 12:40PM I agree. I don't think its so much relying, but it just makes sense.
Living in Los Angeles, there's no reason to carry cash around. Even the local fast food joints all accept credit cards now. Its actually irritating to have to pay cash at, let's say, the laundromat because I rarely have loose change anymore.
The trickle down effect doesn't work anymore. I use to get quarters from dining out and paying cash, or buying stuff at brick & mortars, but with most places accepting cash or me buying stuff online, there is no need to have physical change. I can't wait till I can do everything with my smart phone and not worry about carrying my wallet with me.

GTA IV snatches $500 million in first week {Joystiq}
May 7th 2008 1:13PM No, but movies have a different business model.
Working for a major movie studio myself I quickly learned much of the money is made in the back-end. DVD sales, Rentals, TV rights, Syndication.
Essentially, putting movies in the theaters is one big advertisement. Consumers are more likely to rent or buy a DVD/Digital Download if they knew a movie was in the theaters.
Also, Hollywood benefits from the use of actors. For example when Heath Ledger passed away the sales and rentals for his past movies (e.g. The Patriot, Knight's Tale, etc) went up b/c fans get nostalgic. Its why really old movies can still make good money.
Games are seeing a bit of nostalgic sales with Xbox Live playing old console and arcade games, but no where near the level that movies can bring. So long after GTA IV has come and gone, a movie like Indiana Jones will still be making money.
Apple's value is now quadruple Dell's {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
May 2nd 2008 11:58AM @Brian - From somebody who just purchased a Dell XPS m1530 I have to say this has been the best Dell experience ever. They recently slashed an extra $100 off after a quick 5 minute phone call to price match a better deal that came out two weeks after my purchase.
I've previously made purchases in 2003 and 1997.
@Everyone - What was the context of Dell's comment? It almost seems like it was said in jest as a way of telling the media, "Duh, what else do you think I'm going to say."
