TGS 2008: No More Heroes 2 debut trailer {Joystiq}
Oct 9th 2008 1:56AM During the brief period where I owned a wii No More Heroes was definitely my favorite title. I ended up selling the wii because the great games for it were pretty much single player, and I had beaten them. (NMH, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3) and SSBB wasn't getting played much either. This and Pikmin 3 might convince me to get a wii again. (Or at least borrow someone elses)

Oct 8th 2008 7:42PM You don't understand, I'm NOT against DRM. It's important that developers have their rights too or they won't feel comfortable making their games. I'm against Securom and install-limits because they harm the end user without stopping piracy. With Steam the DRM is actually convenient for th user. It benefits both parties. Securom leaves the Pirates with the best gaming experience.

Oct 8th 2008 7:34PM The thing about steam is that the DRM actually makes it more convenient for the user. Unlike Securom, or any other method of DRM, with steam I can download and install the games I buy on any computer I want, on any number of computers I want, however many times I want. There are no rootkits to deal with, it doesn't care what other programs I have running.
Steam isn't just DRM, it's a service. It auo-updates all your games and allows you to use your license for that game whatever happens. Much like xbox-live it allows you to see what your friends are up to and chat with them, with the nifty shift+tab shortcut for most games. Steam makes PC gaming easy, which is exactly what the PC platform needs. Most users don't want to buy a game, put in 4 discs in a row waiting as a bar slowly moves across in an installer that takes their wholes screen for 20 minutes, only to find somethings wrong and they need something else installed. No one wants to go from website to website searching for the latest patch of a game.
Saying the people who bought STALKER over steam are screwed is putting the blame in the wrong place. The Securom was put in place by the publisher, so any average consumer is screwed. You shouldn't have to crack a game in order for your media to work the way you want it.
I won't stand for rookit drm that hurts the end user, but I fully support Valves service because it benwfits both the developers and the consumers.
I won't pay EA anything to put a rootkit on my computer.

Oct 8th 2008 6:36PM This game looks interesting, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna get it. EA's policies, especially recently, is really putting me off from buying any of their products. Putting Crysis on Steam was a great step in the right direction, but including securom, even on the steam version, was enough to put me off. Spore's DRM was more than enough to drive me away from the title that I was highly anticipating. (The fact that it was mediocre at best doesn't help either)
If EA does it right this time and releasesthe PC version without securom, without install limits, then I'll probably buy it. If they use securom, they'll never get a purchase from me. And no, I'm not going to "just pirate it" because I should be able to enjoy a game, own it, and support the developers. Two out of three isn't good enough.
Crysis Wars free trial coming next weekend {Joystiq}
Oct 5th 2008 4:08PM I wonder if the trial still has securom?
Team 17 boss wary of DSi features {DS Fanboy}
Oct 3rd 2008 5:04PM I think the SD slot and downloadable games will do just the opposite. A lot of the Piracy on DS systems has to do with convenience, and price. If it is easier for someone to buy a game straight from their DSi, for maybe $20 instead of the ridiculous $35 you see a lot of DS games running for, a lot of people will prefer to buy it off the DSi store than even pirating. clicking a couple buttons on your DS and being able to play right there is so much easier than buying a cartridge, a microsd card, looking for roms, downloading them, transfering them to microsd in the right folder, and putting that into the cartridge, then that into the DS. If legitimately downloading the game is that much easier, I think it will curb piracy. You have to take into account also, the ammount of R4 owners who actually OWN the roms they have on their R4, and don't want to have to switch cartridges every time they want to switch games.
DSi announcement didn't keep Nintendo stocks from falling {Joystiq}
Oct 3rd 2008 4:57PM The problem is that the DS doesn't need a hardware revamp, it's still selling pretty well. As far as I see it the DSi will just alienate the tons of people who already have DS's. Now that the DSi is their new platform Nintendo will probably be making their best (and probably only) new DS games on the DSi using both touchscreens. I have a DS, and if I find out something I've been dreaming for like a pikmin or smash bros game for the DS is going to come out, and be DSi only, I'm gonna be pissed, and I'm not going to pay $170+35 just to play that game. The original DS platform is great, and Nintendo should continue to support it instead of alienating their huge install base.

Oct 3rd 2008 2:02PM You mean $200-$300 card whos advantages are also in all of this and last generation Nvidia cards? Yea, I remember.
HD DVD sales apparently still going strong {Engadget}
Sep 30th 2008 2:05PM Why? You can get tons of movies for cheap, and it's not like they're going to suddenly stop working because they stopped producing them. I have a Betamax player and the tapes still work, I can still watch movies on it. What's wrong with that?
Gears of War 2: Skorge in multiplayer, no PC version, rumored map remakes {Joystiq}
Sep 30th 2008 1:43AM The Gears system was loads better than the halo matchmaking system. In Halo, why is it that I can never choose what map or gametype I want to play? The game chooses for you, and then you can veto it? What if there are only a couple of maps I want to play? Or I'm in the mood for a certain game type? No, it chooses it for you. Having your party together before joining a server is a great idea, but not being able to choose the game you want to play RUINED Halo 3 Online. Or maybe it was the handful of bad maps. Take your pick. Either way, while having your friends join after was lame in Gears, being able to choose exactly what game you wanted to play every time, and that you could join games almost instantly made Gears online system much better than Halo's.
