Sprint now facing $1.2 billion class-action suit over early termination fees {Engadget}

Nov 7th 2008 8:08PM It's really hard to feel bad for you. Your contract never had a pro-rated ETF policy when you signed it. Why do you think you shouldn't have to pay the entire thing back when you break the contract? Of course I agree that all the policies should have to include pro-rated language with their ETFs, and the government can help to make that happen, but until it does, it's your own fault for signing it.

Nov 7th 2008 8:05PM Right, they tell you ON THE PHONE that they're going to renew your contract if you make a change to your plan though. If you don't want it, tell them you won't accept that. You have a choice not to change your plan, people. I'm not saying I agree with this ridiculous process of renewing the contract in this way, but you have options. Like saying "Fine, cancel my service today if you won't give me the new plan without extending my current contract." They'll either give you the plan without contract, or you can walk away from Sprint to someone like T-Mobile who actually have decent ETF policies.

You must be joking right? What you described makes no sense. Why wouldn't you have just told your credit card company that the ETF was an unauthorized charge? There's no way a company can just auto-renew a contract and you have to accept that.

Psystar slaps Apple around, releases Mac clones with Blu-ray / GeForce 9800GT {Engadget}

Oct 28th 2008 8:37PM Hmm. I'm pretty sure Apple could navigate its way through those issues if it wanted to. I don't suppose their resistance to do so has anything to do with the mounds of $$ they're bringing in with iTunes downloads? ;)

Mystery RC29 update hits T-Mobile's G1 {Engadget}

Oct 28th 2008 12:56PM @Andrew
You don't seem to understand the idea behind OTA updates. "Check for updates" is a pull mechanism - the point of OTA updates is that they're pushed to you as soon as they're available (with some network loading taken into consideration) so it's clearly better than you waiting until you happen to be at home and connected to your PC (err, Mac). There is no downside of an OTA update. Android already is backing up your contacts and apps so the benefit you're talking about with iTunes isn't relevant.

Motorola intros avant-garde $2,000 AURA, markets it like a Rolex {Engadget}

Oct 22nd 2008 2:05PM You people know that Nokia's Vertu line is very similar, right? High-end phones with very limited functionality which appeal to consumers with considerably large wallets. Recessions don't affect the buying habits of these people. You may not be interested in buying it, but you're not the target market. Relax a bit folks.

Aegis Mobility's DriveAssist cripples your phone when you drive {Engadget}

Oct 15th 2008 8:09PM Nothing in the article or at the Aegis website describes exactly where the "software" is, so my guess is that it's on the network side. I would guess it's using the network's power adaptation algorithms to track the mobile and its speed too rather than GPS since GPS requires a ton of data to be sent up to the network (the power adaptation info is already in the network). So long story short, if it's in the network, it's easy to prevent the person in the car from doing anything and still allow 911 calls to go out. Yeah they'd still be prevented from doing the same while a passenger or in a bus/train but if you don't like that restriction, don't sign up (this is aimed at parents who are paying their kids' bills).

Motorola's Q11 gets official: WinMo 6.1, WiFi, 3MP camera {Engadget}

Oct 8th 2008 7:11PM The 1 key is on the E on the Q9H also. It's so the 5 is on the F, which is where the little nub needs to be (check your pc's keyboard and you'll see it also has a nub on the 5 for homerow).

Oct 8th 2008 7:05PM Q9 screens are centered. So is Q. It's just this one, presumably for icons on the side
