Please ignore just about everything pkitty said.
If you are entering Karazhan and in the Kara/Gruul/Mag cycle, it is trivial to get gear to cap +spellhit. FSW, Spellstrike, and appropriate gemming will get you most of the way there, and at that level it is your most important stat since you are filling your DoT time with Shadowbolt. Shadowbolt is going to make up 30-40% of your DPS. Less if you are missing like crazy.
If you haven't been putting your stats and talents into THE SPREADSHEET (http://www.leulier.com/) you are doing yourself a huge disservice. In my case, at 201 spellhit, and 1300 shadow damage self-buffed, stacking crit doesn't help me as much as stacking damage. It ends up being something like 1 point of spelldamage being worth 1.4 points of crit.
Destruction is the most viable and most scalable DPS build you can have. This isn't just hypothetical theoretical crap, this is proven math and all the facts support it.
Raid groups entering into BT/HY/Sunwell territory would be well served to have one Affliction lock for Shadow Embrace and Malediction, but the rest should all be Destruction at that point unless there is some stupid reason that they would intentionally spec into a build that does less damage, which is asinine.

Jan 30th 2008 10:52AM when you are hit-capped and in T4-T5 transition, Destruction 0/21/40 will scale better than any other build for personal DPS and raid DPS via ISB uptime.
you may have threat problems. if you do, i would recommend 0/40/21 and Improved Imp, which not only gives a ton of health to partymates, but the threat reduction (20%) goes a long way to helping you nuke your heart out.
