Sling rains on its own parade {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Apr 2nd 2009 12:45PM Brian,
I'm in the same boat as you, I had my parents buy me the SlingBox Tuner for my birthday a little over a year ago. I bought it from amazon since it was no longer being sold on Slingmedia's site and I had asked Sling if they planned on continuing support for the Tuner before I went and ordered it and they said that they would, I know that it has been a while since that but I expected that Sling was going to keep support for the Tuner for at least a little while since it was one of the earlier versions and they only had 4 products up until that time and that the older products would number alot more than the new products at least for the time being. I feel this has alot do with EchoStars meddling with SlingMedia objectives. They just lost their CEO and Founder. What Sling is doing by cutting support for the Classic, Tuner and AV is cutting off half of their previous outbound slinging products. I'm not counting the SlingCatcher because that is a receiver. I did think that they would cut off so much of their customers.

Older Slingboxes won't work with SlingPlayer for iPhone {Engadget}

Apr 2nd 2009 12:22AM Nilay you are totally correct about pissing of Sling Happy Customers. They just lost their CEO, I had a feeling there was a problem between the sling team and EchoStar and I think I know what was going on. I think that kevorkian or whatever the last CEO's name was told by EchoStar not to support the older boxes and push forward demand for the new integrated cable/sling boxes.

FCC to revise emergency backup power rule for cell towers {Engadget Mobile}

Dec 10th 2008 10:57AM Doesn't Verizon already have lots of emergency back-up equipement that they use. I know they have mobile cell towers on trucks and other stuff they use in case of a power emergency so I wanna know why the other companies can't do something similar. Most of the time the power is restored to my town in 2-4 hours. The FCC should set that as a goal for most area and then require more for tornadoe alley and other high risk areas. That would make it easier for the companies to swallow.

OPINION: The real cost of unionized auto workers? $70/hour? Try $38! {Autoblog}

Nov 25th 2008 11:34AM 70 dollars and hour for a union worker is right. If you take all the wages+pension they will recieve over their lifetime it is 70 dollars an hour. They still recieve benifit after they retire. There was a WWI vet that retired from Gm in the 50's and was still receiving pension for more years than he actually worked.

Jun 10th 2008 8:13AM I wanna know how much the phone will be without a qualified upgrade. especially if your only 2-3 months away from upgrade date.

3G or not 3G: WHERE is the question {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

May 22nd 2008 6:29PM The whole site is down, not just the Coverage viewer, but i still hope they are updating it.

AppStore is on the way. How much are you willing to pay? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

May 21st 2008 8:34PM I agree, Slingplayer is the only app I would pay over 10 dollars for, partly becuase it's one I look so forward too.

Refurb iPhones still contain previous users' data {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

May 20th 2008 10:49AM and before the 3G iPhones leave the warehouses, I see this delaying the next generation back a few weeks.

Epic Games prez compares Wii to a "virus" {Engadget}

Apr 21st 2008 2:02PM I totally agree with you, They want a console they can just write and go without thinking about it. I think a true developer could look at the Wii and think no different about it, I think if you had a massive seller game you would want to put it on the biggest selling system because it only makes sense. HD doesn't do anything for me since i don't have an HD TV. I think developers need to think look at the compliments to video games systems before they start work on a game and deciding what to do to it.
