iPhone 3GS users report slow or inconsistent Wi-Fi connections {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Jul 8th 2009 11:25AM For us amateurs, how can I judge if my iPhone 3gs is running slow? I often get 1 bar in my house, next to my mac which has a full set. Seems to run slower, but this is my first iphone (or any phone with internet) so I have no comparison.
I ran the dslreports.com app speed test and got latency 33ms, download 1664 Kbps and Upload 422 Kbps, but from what I'm understanding these numbers need to be interpreted in the context of many other factors.
So how would I know what's normal and what's "possibly defective?"
Thanks
Frozen iPod returns from the grave {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Apr 30th 2009 8:33PM I had dropped my ipod nano (1g) in the snow. Lost it for months. Found it (before the thaw) and it still works. It was inside an iSkin case, so now I'll always put 'em in those.
Why not look up the name on the back of the iPod in the phone book and see if he can tell you what songs are on the thing? He or she may not read TUAW.

Photoshop Elements 6 now shipping {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Mar 24th 2008 10:24PM I'm deciding whether to upgrade Photoshop Elements 4.0 to 6.0 or just buy Pixelmator. Photoshop does seem to have more features (like that swipe the kid looking the wrong way and replace him with one facing frontward, on their web site) but previous versions have seemed pretty un-mac-like.
Pixelmator looks nice and probably has the feature set I'd need, and is cheaper. But for $20 more is Photoshop El worth it?

Feb 28th 2008 5:01AM I'm always amazed at how people find enough time and effort to complain. Typos happen. I find just the announcement of a new utility a little bit helpful, too. I can make the comparison myself. Or you can post one, Simpleton.
Palm Centro action shots emerge {Engadget Mobile}
Sep 5th 2007 9:46AM i thought it wasn't called the treo, but centro. so why does it say "Treo" at the top?
Dear Palm: It's time for an intervention {Engadget}
Aug 21st 2007 3:15PM Thanks for writing this. I hope you've actually forwarded this (and the comments) to Palm. I've use a IIIxe, Vx, Tungsten T, Palm TX for the past 10 years.
The TX and the Tungsten both stopped functioning and the price for repairs nearly approximated the price of a new one. Palm's repair site actually says it's time to think about buying a new Palm (instead of fixing the old one).
There is a wealth of medical software for the Palm, unparalleled on other platforms. Still I'm jumping ship after 10 years. I've seen the Foleo and Gandalf, waited for Cobalt and the Linux based system. And I'm a Mac user (thank goodness for Mark/Space). I hate to say it, but I'm buying a Blackberry next.
