Western Digital WD TV Live HD media player gets official {Engadget}
Oct 13th 2009 11:03AM You are probably thinking of cinemacube. I am really tempted to get that as it will do DTS downmixing (the old WDTV could not do this). Interested if anyone knows if the DTS issue is fixed as I don't want to wait on a "pre-order" from cinemacube.

Oct 12th 2009 9:17AM I know the old WDTV did not do DTS downmix (which is necessary for me) does the new one not do it either?

Aug 25th 2009 1:48PM I hate it when people keep saying you have to pay Amazon to convert books. If you want them wirelessly delivered to your Kindle, then yes you have to pay. If you just want them converted and you will load them up through USB, there is NO cost.
As the sony doesn't do wireless delivery of converted formats, you are doing the exact same free thing for both the Sony and the Kindle.
I've had both. The Sony is a better device, but the Kindle book store is usually better both in selection and price.

Aug 3rd 2009 8:40AM I have had the 505 and the 500. You are right in that it's not "hard" to just load stuff up during PC Sync. For me, though, being able to get a book / blog / magazine, anywhere at anytime is worth the bump in cost. It's not necessary, but it's a feature I think a lot of people find they can't live without once they get it.
Also, the Kindle store (for some genres of books) is more robust than the Sony store, so you have to figure that into your pro/con list.
Exchange support coming to Sidekick LX 2009 today for $4.99 a month {Engadget}
Jul 28th 2009 1:09PM I find the attitude that some people have of those that use the sidekick are worse than those of the people that actually own a sidekick. Most sidekick users I know LOVE their phone and think the Iphone, blackberries, and Android devices are ALSO cool.
It's a phone! It will not solve world hunger, cure cancer, or any of these other lofty ideals that give you the right to be a complete jackass to those that are happy with what they have.
I guess some bloggers don't really get that.

PopcornHour's latest C-200 media box is Blu-ray (& anything else) ready {Engadget}
Jun 17th 2009 2:26PM 1.) I think he/she/it means physical space. Having a set top box is easier than hiding a full system. If you want to get a shuttle box and cram everything in there, your prices start to go up and cooling becomes an issue.
2.) Coupled with a NAS with a good interface it's really simple to do sharing between these devices. Yes it's easy to do this with the HTPC too.
3.) This is actually a win for the Popcorn hour. I don't have a TV with VGA / HDMI port, so connecting an HTPC to my set either means s-video or an extra card to break out to component or RCA. If I am in a small HTPC box already this may not be an option.
4.) You still had to install the OS, set it up, install / test the software you wanted to use (XBMC), set that up, and then could get going. Set Tops are designed to basically be plug and play. I know how to do OS setup, driver setup, etc. I just choose not to do so on my TV.
In the end the HTPC will always be more powerful than a set top box, but for the price and hassle free experience (move file over / play) set top boxes are very attractive!
