Comcast lining up more day-and-date HD VOD this month {Engadget HD}

Nov 9th 2009 3:30PM Perhaps instead of crap like this that people DON'T really care about, how about they modernize the DVR OS, give us remote (PC nad smartphone) access to programming our DVR, and give us MORE CHANNELS IN HD! Honestly Comcast, who do you think you're fooling with your silly jabs at FiOS for having videos about "folding clothes" or whatever? The only time anyone EVER looks at most any of that free VID garbage either offers is when there's nothing on worth watching on the limited HD channels you provide. So yeah, I guess it IS important you have MORE than FiOS to offer over VOD since you offer so little live HD.

And what's up with Comcast DVR with TIVO? It's STILL only available in a very limited area right? Why aren't you rolling it nationwide?

Ask Engadget HD: How do I hook up surround sound without cables running everywhere? {Engadget HD}

Oct 15th 2009 12:20PM The room I use for media has a large walk through opening to the left of the TV (into the next room) and a open staircase at the rear of the room. My solution for my surrounds was to run up the corners at each side of the TV and then along the ceiling/wall joint to the rears. I used the cheap white plastic wire conduit (Panduit type stuff but from Home Depot) up the corners and back to the surrounds. It's hardly noticeable unless you look as since the only way to run wires at floor level would involve cutting carpet and running under it this was the best solution I could devise. Running through walls or behind baseboards was only an option to one side. HTH.

The RVU Alliance picks up Verizon as a founding promoter {Engadget HD}

Sep 14th 2009 9:55AM Except their "whole home DVR" solution SUCKS for anyone who records/watches HD. 160GB? Come on. Put a 1 or 2 TB drive in the stupid thing and give us an HD program guide.

I now have FIOS as an option, and I was convinced that as soon as it became available I would be switching from Comcast. But until they fix their DVR situation (either put in a bigger drive or at least unlock the expansion ports like Comcast) I can't justify switching. Sure, Comcast's VR only has a 160GB drive too, but at least that I can easily slap a 1TB eSATA and have some decent recording time.

Captain Obvious reports: AT&T sees surge in WiFi use post-iPhone OS 3.0 {Engadget Mobile}

Jul 31st 2009 12:21PM Well, they had to do SOMETHING, since it's obvious the AT 3G network just cannot handle the strain of all the iPhones they've sold.

Paramount flicks to see Blu-ray purchase, DVD rental availability ahead of DVD sale date {Engadget HD}

Jul 31st 2009 12:19PM I've felt they should have been doing this since the format war STARTED. The one sure way to push a new format on people is to release the older format LATER. Those who are such suckers for buying a movie on disc the moment it comes out WILL move to the new format. I think they should drop standalone DVD sales completely, and just release every title on Blu-ray, with a DVD copy and a digital copy included. It's truly the ONLY way they are going to boost Blu-ray sales to the point that people stop saying Blu-ray is doomed because of download.

BBC promises Open Championship in HD next year {Engadget HD}

Jul 18th 2009 11:16AM I'm not sure what YOU guys are seeing in your locale, but I'm watching right now on WJLA ABC 7 and there is NO WAY what I'm seeing isn't HD.

TiVo earnings call reveals Comcast Tivo, Stop||Watch expansions on the way {Engadget HD}

May 28th 2009 9:38AM OK, but apparently these would only roll out to Comcast areas that use the Motorola boxes right? Those of us on Comcast systems that use the Scientific Atlantic garbage are still stuck with the crappy software that's on them.
