International iPhone users: bringing your iPhone to the States? Your options are limited. {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 15th 2009 11:04AM I took my iPhone with me on a trip to New York recently. I had data roaming off cos I wanted to avoid the charges, but there were times when I had no wifi and needed Maps. I used about 1MB of data and got charged about £6.00 for it from O2 in the UK.

I avoided phone calls all together and my girlfriend used Skype to call her parents back home (as it was her birthday). It was their first time on Skype and were amazed by the clarity, even just using the built in speakers and mic on our laptops.

It was a pain not having the data access, as there were time I wanted to find shops, look up phone numbers, and generally just be online, but couldn't. Free wifi was hard to find, outside of the nice wifi at the Holiday Inn we stayed at.

AIM and BeejiveIM updated for push support {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jun 23rd 2009 7:27AM It may just be me but AIM (Free) crashed when I try to load the contacts page. I have reinstalled it on the phone but no use. Dunno if its cos I have Exchange contact syncing set up or not.

Anyone else seen this?

Tell us your Skype app stories {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Mar 31st 2009 7:05AM I tried the skype test call over wifi. Works very well. I was also able to get a skype call, iPhone to Mac work over EDGE in the UK. It took about 30 seconds before the audio started, but then it was fine, about a 3-4 second delay at most. I was surprised that even worked.

I think O2 might stop that soon.

Mar 6th 2008 6:40PM Just got the Whistleblower going. Great quality indeed. Hope more gets rolled out sooner rather than later.
Also, be nice to have an iPhone specific page. Its a bit of a hassle selecting days in the Last 7 days section without REALLY zooming in.
