An iPhone on Verizon in 2010? With LTE, it could happen {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Feb 18th 2009 3:53PM No, because before the last firmware update, 3G worked just fine at my desk. Now it doesn't. I pay for 3G and the Chicago Loop should not be an area where this signal is weak. I sit by the window and have had 2-3 bars consistently the entire time (used to stream Pandora all day at work with 2-3 pauses the entire day).

This infinite antenna switching stuff has been happening very recently. Besides, why did I upgrade to the 3G if I'm not going to be able to use it? I mean, I get that there are areas where coverage is better than others, etc. but downtown Chicago should NOT be one of them! Granted, I lose all signal the farther in the building I go, and that is to be expected. But having the phone operate under one behavior and all of a sudden having it act this way is just wrong.

Feb 18th 2009 2:27PM Please, please, please let this happen! AT&T and my iPhone are now in a crapulous infinite loop where I get maybe 2 bars of 3G, and so you go to open a page, and the little wheel spins, the 3G reverts to edge, the wheel spins more, then it goes back to 3G. Then the wheel spins, the phone goes to EDGE, and back again and again. The problem is, the dumbass phone never downloads my email or the web page I'm trying to go to, instead you get stuck in this infinite loop of antenna switching that is retarded and retarded!

Feb 4th 2009 7:30PM Can someone also explain why OS X is unbelievably slow with USB thumb drives too? Why can data to a thumb drive in seconds on XP/Vista/7 yet it takes the same files minutes to move on OS X??? This is incredibly frustrating and totally negates the value as the USB thumb drive as a quick and easy way to transfer files!!!

First Look: TuneUp for Mac now ready to tackle your iTunes disorganization {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Dec 11th 2008 7:38PM You know, what would really be sweet is if Apple would allow you to sort songs with the small "!" to the left of them. Sure it's nice to know that iTunes can't find that song, but why not let you see all the songs it can't find altogether so you can batch delete them?

Nov 10th 2008 9:40PM A) CNG? There's no national infrastructure to fill CNG vehicles en masse. Why not use gasoline or diesel? You can guarantee to fill an empty tank 24/7 across the country, and it can still be an efficient engine.

B) 'Over-Unity' sounds highly dubious

TUAW Review: MacBook Pro (Late 2008) {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Oct 28th 2008 11:37AM Just got mine (MBP 2.53 GHz) last night. Why doesn't Handbrake utilize the CPU fully??? It's like it's capped at 20-25% for some reason. Otherwise, this computer is amazing!

Oct 27th 2008 8:46PM 'Flying' through the rockies is great :)

I wonder, the phone seems to know when it's flat and when it's not, how does it do this with just the accelerometer?? Unless I just happen to be holding it the right way when I open it every time, it really does seem to know if you're holding it flat vs. upright... crazy!

FireWire feedback from readers and Apple {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Oct 16th 2008 7:43PM This is going to be a problem in a year or so, when I need a new laptop to run my audio gear. I am not big time enough to afford an extra 500-700 more for a MacBook w/firewire. That money can go toward better audio gear, where it really counts in the signal chain. If there isn't a hardware refresh or some sort of option that is less than the difference between the cost of the MB and the MBP, I'm going back to the crappy world of other laptops. Crap.

New MacBooks add metal cases, power to burn but no FireWire {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Oct 14th 2008 8:20PM @Karnblack:

No. That's why a USB-->Ethernet adapter would be far better to have to get than whatever you'd get for a nonexistant firewire port. That would be less money in your pocket or a different brand of computer.

Oct 14th 2008 8:09PM This is really bad, I will eventually need a new laptop (have one of the first 2.0GHz white MacBooks, got it the first day), and I was going to just get the new MacBook, but it doesn't have firewire, and I do audio recording. Thankfully my software's windows based so I now have 3 options:
Buy a MacBook Pro, Liquid cool my desktop, or get a windows based PC. The second two don't require $2,000, which could go toward better microphones, preamps, plugins. So I'm a little miffed by the new MacBooks. :(
