Analyst says Android and Symbian to merge, Nokia and Google to get matching tattoos {Engadget}

Jul 25th 2008 5:24PM You know IF this happens it will end up being Symbian Series 60 with inputs from UIQ (Sony Ericsson, Motorola), MOAP (NTT DoCoMo) and Android (Google + Partners). But it will basically run all S60 applications.

From what I've heard Android is nowhere near ready, so it will have to be S60 with some input from Google (and the others of course).

Yet, somehow I doubt this, still it wouldn't surprise me since Google has been making apps for S60 for a while now and they can advance their real business plans much sooner by hopping onboard a mature platform.

S60 Touch screen shots look like... S60 with touch {Engadget}

Jul 21st 2008 8:41PM Definitely, have you seen the Haze theme? I use it on my N78 and it would make a nice touch theme. In fact it was the first S60 touch theme released.

Sony Ericsson sees net profits fall 97%, looks to cut 2,000 jobs {Engadget}

Jul 18th 2008 2:15PM You could say that it was Nokia altogether. SE had nothing to compete with Nokia in pretty much any market. The only thing they had was some decent mid-range feature phones, which Nokia had a better model for each SE model. Nokia is sitting pretty right now, but they need to start moving faster since they have some very capable competition now.

Jul 18th 2008 1:53AM It really comes down to Xbox Live vs. Blu-Ray at this point. The systems cost about the same especially when the 20 GBs sell out and we're back to $349.

Hands-on with Sony's new BDP-S350 and other HD frivolities {Engadget}

Jul 16th 2008 8:26PM What like this is news? Sony has always made cheaply designed and built products to the mass market. Sony only puts thought and builds with pride those products that either launch a format or is part of their high end lines (>$2000). Remember that sub-$300 DVD player they made in 2001 that inevitably failed around 12-18 months of purchase due to a design flaw. They never took responsibility for that, and since most players were out of warranty by the time they failed people got screwed. Why people even choose Sony in the sub -$1000 price range is beyond me. You could do a lot better in that range with a Panasonic, Toshiba (my discussion is not only about Blu-ray but consumer electronics in general), or even Samsung.
