iPhone coming to Australia on Telstra? {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 3rd 2007 12:23PM I would be very surprised if Virgin took the iPhone, only in that being on the Optus network, they have no EDGE, which really does limit the iPhone's data capabilities.
I will concede that I forgot about the Hiptop data plan, and in light of that, it seems that possibly the iPhone would have a chance of a reasonable unlimited data plan with Telstra. The only stumbling block that I can think of is that presumably the iPhone will sell in significantly greater numbers than the Hiptop, and so Telstra may be somewhat hesitant to allow true unlimited data access to such a great number of users.
iPhone coming to Australia on Telstra? {Engadget Mobile}
Nov 2nd 2007 7:09AM I always knew this would happen :( The only choices were ever going to be Optus, Telstra, or Vodafone, as 3 would NEVER take a GSM only handset.
I have an Optus service now, but I could quite easily change to Vodafone. I don't think that even the iPhone is worth changing to Telstra for.
There is ZERO chance of a proper "unlimited" data plan with telstra. At least they have an EDGE network. Neither Vodafone nor Optus have this.

Motorola RAZR 2 V8 for T-Mobile caught in the wild {Engadget Mobile}
Oct 12th 2007 12:39PM I heartily retract my statement. I was looking at the wrong picture. Yes that screen looks tiny. Reminds me of my ghastly RAZR original.

IPhone confirmed for T-Mobile Germany {Engadget Mobile}
Sep 19th 2007 8:53PM Not really a good solution for Australia though, eventually. Only Telstra has an EDGE network, and they have claimed not to want the iPhone. Vodafone and Optus have spent so much money promoting their HSPDA network i don't see them adding EDGE just for the iPhone. And 3 is totally unable to use the iPhone because they have no GSM network, only HSDPA.
So we would get GPRS, AND wifi hotspots here are few and far between.
