Motorola Z10 landing in October? {Engadget}
Sep 14th 2007 7:02PM I've never been a big fan of Motorola, but I just wanted to say, kudos to them for finally stepping up with a 3.2MP camera and 30 fps video. Whether it actually takes good pictures is another story, but good for them for finally coming out with something that stands out from the rest of their RAZR clones in specs.
iPod used to identify crash victim, fellow blogger Adam Finley {Engadget}
Sep 10th 2007 6:17PM Rest in peace Adam Finley. My condolences go out to his family . . .
On a side note, I agree with James above. If you DO bike on the sidewalk, you should go the speed of a pedestrian (we can't always see or hear you bikers sneaking up on us). And quite frankly MOST of the bike riders I've seen (MOST, not all) go much slower than the speed of the cars around them. This concerns me because in my area, most of the streets are fairly small with few lanes and well, most bikers try to squeeze themselves between a wide load and some parked cars while going at a slow speed. Don't know, but it seems kind of dangerous to me (especially since my area doesn't have that many bike lanes). Just my opinion, but I think that if you're going much slower than the cars around you and there is no bike lane to safely ride your bike on, you mind as well ride on the sidewalks anyway. Bike riders sometimes forget that cars are much bigger than they are and if they are not careful, they are the ones who suffer greater damage (being on a bike and all). But of course, both car drivers and bike riders should always be careful of their surroundings.
Anyway, sorry for being off-topic.
iPod touch vs. HTC Touch: Apple trademark dispute, round 2? {Engadget}
Sep 7th 2007 5:44PM I agree with Nick above. I mean, if I was going to talk to someone about the HTC Touch, I would just come out and say "HTC Touch". Most people would know that HTC makes mobile phones. If I was going to talk to someone about the iPod Touch, I would just come out and say "iPod Touch". EVERYBODY should know what an iPod is. I don't know, but this does not sound very confusing to me. I really don't understand how someone could easily mix up an Apple and an HTC product with each other. I'd like to think that as a consumer, our intelligence should get more credit than this.
Hands-on with Creative's Zen {Engadget}
Aug 31st 2007 6:30PM I have owned a Creative Zen Vision: W for almost a year now and while it isn't as slim and sleek as the (video) iPod, I bought it because it has a 4.3" widescreen display (something that the iPod doesn't have). Also, I'm a big anime and Japanese drama fan, so I watch a lot of fansubs that have been encoded in divX/Xvid. It's convenient for me because I don't have to waste any time converting my videos to put into my Zen. I just sync the videos in "as is" and I'm good to go. Of course the player itself is kind of heavy and the UI isn't that great at multi-tasking (it freezes if you try to do too much at the same time) but if you want more than a regular mp3 player and don't want so much constraints on playable file formats, then it's definitely worth a look. Be aware that it isn't the kind of mp3 player that you would want to take jogging around town with you though (it's too big for that).
I think it's fine if people are into iPods, but they should also take the time to look around and see other options because maybe, just maybe, they might find something better suited for them alone. Everybody has different tastes and needs and just because a product is the most advertised one, doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best one (or right one for you personally).
My 2 cents.
Hands-on with Samsung's YP-P2 widescreen PMP {Engadget}
Aug 31st 2007 6:11PM That really does look nice! PMPs these days sure are looking much sleeker and sexier than before. I love the fact that its widescreen. In my opinion, the video iPod should have been widescreen. I don't know how big the screen is on this thing, but I never bought the video iPod just because in my opinion I thought that a 2.5" screen was a bit too small for viewing videos (especially when that circular navigational wheel takes up more space on the thing than the screen itself). But hey, whatever floats your boat . . .
Hands-on with Samsung's YP-S5 PMP at IFA {Engadget}
Aug 31st 2007 5:50PM That looks really sexy in white. Too bad the screen is tiny, but if I didn't care about screen size, I would have definitely bought this thing.
LG's KS20 and KU990 vs. the iPhone {Engadget}
Aug 31st 2007 5:35PM In my opinion, I think that the LG KS20 looks the best out of all 3. I'm not a big fan of the large curved chrome edges on the iPhone (I know a lot of electronics these days have the chrome edges, but it just looks a bit much to me). And yes, I notice that both LG phones have the chrome edge thing going on too, but they at least look more toned down. Too bad the LG KS20 doesn't have the specs of the LG KU990 (5MP camera, both 120fps & 30fps video recording, DivX playback, etc).
Hands-off with the impossibly thin Sharp LCD prototypes {Engadget}
Aug 31st 2007 5:12PM I'm assuming that when they make LCDs this thin, they are also much lighter than a 4"+ thick LCD . . . I have a 37" screen LCD and while it's not exactly bulky nor heavy, I would NEVER hang it up on the wall just because the back isn't exactly flat and it's kind of "bubbly".
I would love to have an LCD as thin as this Sharp one because the back is COMPLETELY FLAT and doesn't protrude out (like my current LCD) and looks much neater to hang up on my wall. My aunt has a 60"+ LCD that she has bolted up on the wall and that thing just looks like a monstrosity. If it were as thin as this thing, it would look much cleaner against her wall.
Just my opinion . . . of course you don't necessarily need an LCD that thin, but if it makes it lighter and more convenient for some people then why not? Especially if it was lighter, then I wouldn't mind getting an LCD that's even bigger than 37" (not that it's heavy but it just gets difficult moving it around after awhile, especially up the stairs).
HP Virtus revealed {Engadget}
Aug 30th 2007 7:42PM I'm really hoping that you can just buy that case without all the stuff on the inside. I've been wanting to build a new computer for some time now but want a sexy and sleek looking case (most of the ones I've seen are either too plain or too crazy looking). But if not, that thing better have some good specs and be easy to upgrade. My current computer is so compact that it is sometimes difficult to move things around (I didn't build it myself, it was store-bought).
Is this the US Nokia N95? {Engadget Mobile}
Aug 10th 2007 5:16PM Hmm . . . my bf and I bought our n95s at the same time. Fortunately, nothing was wrong with mines when I received it. My bf on the other hand, has that click click problem and complains that his phone feels kind of "loose". In comparison, when he holds my n95, he says that it feels more "tight" than his. I wonder if it's just me . . .
