Engadget Cares: save us from Apple's groundbreaking, developer-shackling App Store {Engadget}

Sep 25th 2008 5:12PM Yes the app store is a funny old place. The same old stuff day in day out, I wait to see the update marker trigered, what can it be, will this be that one cool update that I've been waiting for, alas it never is.

Don't get me wrong I bought the iPod touch to listen to music, whatch videos, look at photos and added bonus browes the internet. For this reason the fact that there is such a thing as the app store is a great little extra, but this little extra could be so much bigger as the artical puts over so well.

Will Apple ever open things right up, not likley. When the 5Gen iPhone /iPod touch comes out in 3 years I think the touch screen will have peaked in a physical sence, and then where do you go? software, that's the only way to go.

T-Mobile G1 impressions: what we love, what we don't {Engadget}

Sep 24th 2008 7:51PM Yes this device is the worse looking smart phone thing for years. Who the hell would actually carry this thing around with them, it's really not nice and anyone that says its the OS you are paying for, ye and it's encased in a piece of crap.

I don't get the Android thing at all, its open to developers, ok, so people can develop tatty applications like 90% of the iPhone apps, so what, it was the same with the old palm top devices like the Psion series 5, the only apps really worth having on them came from top developers because they had been well thought out and polished.

Let me think iPhone or G1, ow boy, why don't google just design their own phone, just a screen with a solid ceramic back. I like Google but I have the feeling latley that they really arn't the coolest people on the block anymore.

Carbon fiber Stiletto boat runs down baddies at 60 knots {Engadget}

Sep 21st 2008 2:09PM Problem is that the custom speed boats the smuglers use do well over 110 knots topped out.

Apple's 'Let's Rock' event roundup {Engadget}

Sep 14th 2008 12:21PM I do love my iPod touch and my old iPod video but I do think the old design of click-wheel and screen needs a bit of a change. Had a good look at the iPod Nano in store today and was to say the least underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong I’m not sure what they need to do really but the whole thing needs a whole new lease of life equal to the 1st gen Nano. And the Classic really needs some work, now that model feels and looks worse than my 2005 video iPod. Each to their own I guess but need a bit more innovation other than software with these things. I'd love to see a tiny little full touch Nano, about the same size as the new nano, but just a touch screen, shack to go home.

Zune 80GB price cuts, Zune 120GB and 16GB hitting shelves early {Engadget}

Sep 14th 2008 12:08PM Here in the UK we (as far as i'm awear) have never had the chance to buy the Zune. I have iPod video and touch but would like the chance to give the Zune a look, shame they didn't push it globally, why is that? Looks like it's got a nice big screen from the photos.

iPhone 2.1 update: the aftermath {Engadget}

Sep 14th 2008 11:59AM Just thinking the same thing about the Low Rank faded text. What's all that about it looks nasty.

iPod touch 2G unboxing, hands-on, and first impressions {Engadget}

Sep 12th 2008 10:00AM If you have the iPod touch 1st gen than stay with it till the real 2Gen comes out next year.

I can hear Jobs now "we've improved the speaker and we've made it even thinner' (back to 8mm like the 1Gen) ...Our nano has this gorgeous 204ppi high definition screen so we thought we'd bring it to iPod touch... but why stay with the 3.5inch screen when we can make it 4inch, so here it is the iPod touch HD (or something along those lines).

There's no bought that next year is the year for iPhone and iPod touch, just wait and see. The two year rule applies with apple now days, release(day 1) tart-up -(1st anniversary call it 2 Gen when it’s really 1.5) replace-(2nd anniversary call it 3Gen when it’s really 2Gen).

iPod touch 2G - first hands-on {Engadget}

Sep 10th 2008 4:27AM I've had the touch since Christmas and it is without bought the greatest of all my gadgets, especially since the apps store came on the scene (not that all the apps are worth downloading, there's a lot of crap, but the few goods ones are worth the wait). For £169 you simply can't beat the touch for entertainment value, never been bothered about the iPhone, £45 a month, I don't think so, I actually use my phone it would be trashed in a couple of months.

This NEW iPod touch 2Gen isn't really new, it's a 1.5 version. Still, personally I think if you haven’t got the touch and you have a bit of money saved up, you can't go wrong with this device. Playing about with a touch down PC World and drawing a positive/negative conclusion is what I did at first, then I got one and it all changed. I would rate the touch as my top gadget ever, even though it is essentially just a screen. I'm not loyal to manufactures if there's something better out there I’ll drop them like a stone, but there isn't anything better just a load of pretenders.

Live from Apple's 'Let's Rock' event in San Francisco {Engadget}

Sep 9th 2008 12:20PM Let’s be honest these 1.5 iPod keynotes are never the same as the bi-annual true 2Gen iPod keynotes every other year (next one should be September 2009), this year's a 1.5. Apple milk every last drop out of their components, just moving things about and changing the case a bit in years like this. Next year the new 2Gen screens will appear in the iPhone early 2009, then iPod's will follow. Let’s be honest once you use touch screen in a device theirs is only so much you can do to make the hardware look different because the more screen you can see the better.

Just prepare to be disappointed and maybe the iPod Classic will show us what it should be in the mean time.
