Motorola's worldly Q9: "Napoleon" breaks cover for Verizon {Engadget Mobile}

Jul 4th 2008 11:31AM The body of this phone actually lacks about 1/4" of "empty space" around the keyboard that the Q9C has, so there was actually a little nip tuck going on. A good move, IMO.

Virgin Mobile to buy Helio for $39 million in equity {Engadget}

Jun 27th 2008 10:40AM Are you kidding me? Virgin paid $229 per subscriber. That's a bargain. The shareholders may get diluted somewhat, but they also gain a nice new chunk of subscribers for minimal cost.

iPhone 3G hands-on {Engadget}

Fair points, but if the picture at the top of the page is one from the "dramatically lit back room" then the phone clearly has 5 bars.

Also, I would be shocked if Apple allowed press in to see the phone if there wasn't a good signal.

iPhone 3G hands-on {Engadget}

Jun 9th 2008 4:59PM @TomWBrowning:

No, it really isn't. There's alot of room for reality in between 215 kbps and 7.2 mbps. Most of my 3G experience hovers around 800-900 kbps and I wouldn't pay AT&T prices for anything less.

I guess it's a good thing I don't. iPhone 2.0 buyers should expect at least 1 mbps throughput for all the hype that's been tossed around.

iPhone 3G hands-on {Engadget}

Jun 9th 2008 4:54PM Exactly, although I doubt there is a mobile phone out there whose chipset could actually make use of the 7.2 mbps that HSDPA supposedly provides. Having previously worked for a well-known mobile equipment manufacturer, believe me, those speeds are all theoretical.

But anyway, I can get 215 kbps through Sprint with 1 bar of EVDO coverage. What a joke.

iPhone 3G hands-on {Engadget}

Jun 9th 2008 4:47PM Wait, is this for real? Their "3G" speeds topped out at an impressive 215 kbps? You have got to be kidding me. That's not an improvement, people. That's abysmal.

iPhone 3G is finally official, starts at $199, available July 11th {Engadget}

Jun 9th 2008 2:45PM No joke. Just for fun I loaded nationalgeographic.com in my Mogul just like they did. Internet explorer completed the download in 16 seconds.

Skyfire Beta completed the download in 7 seconds.
