Analyst confirms Apple slid past RIM to become number two smartphone vendor {Engadget Mobile}

The dates from your links are from last year... The new 2.1 software does support 3rd party apps, does sync with exchange OTA, does provide push email, as well as VPN connections. Get your facts straight... Nokia is currently feeling the pressure from loss of market share but seems (so far) unable to respond.

Their dominance does not stem from smart phones but cheap flip phones that are given away for free by providers around the world.

"Yes, the keyword in that paragraph being "jailbreak". WM phones multitask out of the box."
Agreed... but the current restrictions on multitasking, placed by Apple, have nothing to do with the OS's architecture. As I mentioned the OS DOES support multitasking....
As far as the virtual keyboard on the Touch Flo 3D goes, the keys are still very small when using the QWERTY, unless you use the "compact QWERTY" as they call it (tap twice to get to W, R, Y etc.) then it's somewhat useful.. I have big fingertips also, that's one of the reasons I went with the iPhone.. and I hate styli.

" by the way, all those waiting for TomTom to become available on iPhone ... it is NOT going to happen, simply because of the way iPhone OS architecture is ... it does not support multitasking .. so you cannot listen to music or answer a call, with TomTom running at the same time, thereby defeating the usability of having tomtom on a phone (iPhone)."
To the contrary... my iPhone multitasks just fine. All I had to do was jailbreak it and install "backgrounder". Now my Chat app along with Pandora (which pauses for incoming calls) are coexisting with no problems... Just goes to show that it has absolutely nothing to do with the iPhone OS architecture!!!
As an owner of the HTC Touch Diamond with US 3G, I can attest to the fact that Touch Flo 3D is nothing more than WinMo with lipstick... There is no fluidity when you scroll and you really have to press (sometimes using the stylus or your nail) the little X in the corner of the screen (as an example) to close apps. No comparison....

Aug 27th 2008 9:13AM "Um... ya.... If I'm selecting a phone to suit *MY* needs then exactly who's "world" would I want it to suit? "
Oh..kay then... now we're getting somewhere. So MMS and cut/paste suit YOUR needs. No need to compare with what suits other people's needs.. yes??
Personally I hardly ever used MMS even with phones that offered it because it's a gimmick for the carriers to generate extra revenue. So.. again.. personally.. this is not a deal killer for me.
But the fact that some people tout MMS and Video as "strategic" features for a mostly "enterprise oriented device" like the Blackberry is laughable to say the least. Yeah.. tell that to some poor soul's boss at the company picknic..
Different strokes for different folks... Now let's move on...

"Congratz on missing the point digitalrio."
"My Bold does more than I need it to and it's certainly more use to me than an iPhone ever would be. I understand there's a ton of people that love the iPhone, but that hardly makes it a better phone for me than my Bold."
Congrats for finally getting the point... The Bold is an awesome device .. if the world revolves around YOU...

To anything including your handle YSTFU!!!
"By that logic, Apple should also omit SMS, only to sell you another phone a year later with "this great new technology"!"
Lay off the pipe...
