I just noticed the statement "Profits are up 47.7 percent from last year, up to $2.5 billion."
So it does appear that actual profit was 2.5 billion and not revenue. I sit corrected by myself on that one.

Apr 26th 2008 11:33AM While I'm willing to admit Nintendo has done an excellent job of creating a product which addresses a niche ignored by Sony and Microsoft, some of the numbers being thrown around here must be kept in perspective. And I'm not going to take the time to see what fiscal cycle each company is on.
First and specifically for Evan: The reports I found indicated Nintendo's announced financial results for the full fiscal year 2007showed total sales rose 73%, up to $16.1 billion. Profits are up 47.7 percent from last year, up to $2.5 billion.
That's 2.5 (not 4.77... so precise to be so off) billion company wide and that is revenue not profit. The big cash cow for Nintendo was clearly the DS, selling approximately 30.31 million units, Nintendo's Wii sold 18.61 million units over the past year. I could not find any results to determine how much of the 2.5 billion was profit. However, I find it hard to believe that a company with 2.5 billion in revenue could net the 4.77 billion you indicate. (You do understand the difference between revenue and profit, don't you?)
Microsoft reported revenue of 51 billion in the previous year. Yes, that's company wide, but so is your 2.5 billion for Nintendo. Like Nintendo is not a WII only company, Microsoft is not solely focused on being a gaming company. But, if you are going to compare revenue for a company to revenue for another company you must use similar fruits (apples to apples, oranges to oranges).
Microsoft's financial year appears to close out in June, but they are projecting a final revenue figure of $66.9 billion to $68.0 billion. That's enormous compared to Nintendo's 2.5 billion. And, in a previous balance sheet I could find, for the nine months ending March 31, 2008 Microsoft reported revenue from their game and entertainment division of 6.5 billion. That's revenue... not profit. So, that would indicate that in a preliminary and admittedly not complete fiscal year, Microsoft's Gaming and Entertainment Division will have revenue of over 6.5 billion, plus whatever the final quarter brings in. So, either way... Microsoft's 6.5 billion in revenue for games and entertainment division in just three quarters pales the 2.5 billion full year revenue figure reported by Nintendo. And that is just Games and Entertainment and only three of four quarters for Microsoft.
So, putting the my figure is bigger than your figure away... WII is a great product. Playstation and Xbox are both great products. I'm not going to take the additional time to look up Sony's numbers, but from a quick glance it looks like everyone is on the road to being profitable in their gaming venture. Hence, gamers like us can celebrate as it means we'll keep having great games to enjoy and great gaming systems.
Xbox 360 owners reporting blank video output issue {Engadget}
Jun 24th 2007 8:54PM I just sent my xbox (second one) back yesterday (one of those RARE times the Circuit City Advantage plan pays off... twice!).
Gratefully, the CCA plan, once the problem is verified will simply send me a gift card for the amount of the original purchase and I'll add to it and get the new Ultimate version.
I'll keep looking for more info. Thanks Engadget for staying on top of really important stuff like this (instead of politics and stuff)!!!

Jun 8th 2007 11:53AM A friend was checking into the Internet speed they'll be offering. He was told the feed in currently 40k and they are hoofing it to get additional T1s to the towers by iPhone launch to bump it up to 80k. Moral of the story: Don't by an iPhone if mobile Internet interests you.

May 10th 2006 1:32AM Note that it's listed as the Palm 700 and not the 700p. I spoke with a Sprint technical support person on the phone last week regarding an issue I was having with email on my 650. After solving my reason for the call I just asked about the rumored release of a 700 in May. The technical support confirmed they were in final phase of testing but that it looked like the release would be late May... "in fact May 28" was the answer. My next question, "Will it be a 700p or 700w?" To which she decisively responded it will be a windows mobile OS device.
Hence, I'm putting my bid in that the "Palm" on that calendar refers to the "Palm" as the manufacturer and not the OS. Even on the Verizon 700w there is the word Palm in the upper left hand corner of the device. and the Verizon logo on upper left.

Apr 28th 2006 9:14PM Don't know about Cingular but had a Sprint technical support person confirm the 700w availability sometime probably late May 2006 and she also confirmed the upcoming 700 release for Sprint will NOT include a Palm version.
Palm Treo 700p on Verizon sooner than we think? {Engadget}
Apr 28th 2006 9:09PM I've been having an email issue with my Treo 650 for a couple of days so I called Sprint technical support this morning for help. At the close of the call, when the tech asked me if they could help me with anything else I asked for info about the rumors of a 700? release for Sprint. She confirmed they are testing and could release a 700 to Sprint users in May (she indicated it was looking more like the end of May than the beginning based on testing). I then through out the golden question... "Will it be a 'p' or 'w' version?" To which she responded, "Definitely a 'w' version." She further indicated they wished they had a 'p' version to release but agreed with me that Verizon will likely maintain a short exclusivity on a 'p' version before it has any opportunity to show up on other providers.
Sprint users... get ready for the 700w coming soon!

Apr 25th 2006 1:37PM Here's a twist... Sprint has been rumored to be providing a new Treo something in May. Perhaps what we're going to see happen is Sprint getting the 700w while Verizon introduces and holds exclusively for a short period of time the new 700p?
