Nintendo announces DSi with dual cameras, "DSi Shop" content store (updated) {Engadget}

Oct 2nd 2008 3:08AM Losing the GBA slot might not be as great an idea as it looks. Stuff like Guitar Hero: On Tour that used the port as a peripheral doesn't work with this new one, and might keep some people from upgrading.

Memorex intros $269 MVBD-2510 Blu-ray player {Engadget}

Sep 18th 2008 11:39AM Something like this is perfect for your average user who's on the fence about Blu-Ray. It doesn't have all the high-end bells and whistles (Profile 2.0), but it's got the necessities (TrueHD decoding, etc).

The only major complaint is the lack of MA decoding, but, then again, look at how many cheaper dvd players, HTIBs, and receivers could never decode regular DTS. The newest DTS codec has, and likely will be for the foreseeable future, a premium feature.

By losing DTS MA decoding and Profile 2.0 stuff, this becomes a decent budget player to get more people to make the plunge into Blu. Honestly, most people didn't pick the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player because it was Profile 2.0 upgradeable, but because, for the longest time, it was the CHEAPEST Blu-Ray player. There are plenty of people, like my mom and grandparents, who would gladly upgrade if Blu weren't so expensive. They've seen a few of my Blu-Rays and were completely wowed, they just can't justify spending $400+ on a player.

Sep 15th 2008 11:21PM Yeah, I've got it running on my Mogul. It's surprising stable, all things considered. TouchFlo needs to be restarted about once a day on mine, but otherwise it's pretty nice.

DRM strikes again, PC users still wait for next-gen audio {Engadget HD}

Apr 12th 2008 12:54AM It's probably a problem in both Windows software and the sound card hardware. The Windows problem is fixable by Windows Update, yes, but I think the sound card needs some equivalent of HDCP for the audio. To my knowledge, no current sound card has this chip. Think of the whole HDCP fiasco with the video cards from a while back. I think it's like that, but for sound cards.
