2Wire-built MediaPoint Blockbuster movie set-top-box now on sale {Engadget}
Nov 25th 2008 12:42PM I'm better off with my TiVo. I haven't been to a Blockbuster store or rented from their online store in over 18 months.
AT&T WiFi access now listed as "included" with iPhone {Engadget}
May 8th 2008 10:00AM How about those of us who are on a PDA unlimited data plan. We pay $10 more per month than the iPhone data plan. Why don't we get the wifi access included with our monthly service as well?
3G iPhone to be discounted to $199 by AT&T? {Engadget}
Apr 29th 2008 8:57PM I could see this as a possiblity. Think about it. You need to add a data plan and AT&T made a bunch of money in Q1 on data revenue (up some 57% over prior Q1) thanks in part to the iPhone and other Smartphones/Blackberry's on the network.

The money for the carriers is in the data plans. Voice is really not making the carriers any money anymore (no roaming, no LD charges, unlimited M2m, unlimited N&W) If they subsidize $200 off the phone to lock you into a 2 year agreement they will make their money back in just a few months -(7 x $30 data plan = $210 revenue) and they may require you to take a text plan as well to get the discount. Not to mention that it will probably be some type of mail in rebate that will be put on a AT&T visa card. So that cost will be spread out over a long term and I'm sure some people do not even bother to fill out or submit the rebates correctly. Also how many people with those rebate visa cards end up coming back into a AT&T store to buy an additional accessories so people spend full retail price for something that cost the company wholesale pricing.
Cellular South wants you so bad, it'll pay your early termination fee {Engadget Mobile}
Apr 26th 2008 7:26PM Shentel "A Sprint Affiliate" has been doing this since about December 07. Apparently it is their way of marketing instead of running TV, Newspaper or radio to build the brand they use marketing dollars to buy out contracts up to $175 - normally they just post it on their reader board or sign at their locations they do not put it in print or any other media outlet that they buy out contracts.

AT&T Mobility CEO: all smartphones to be 3G within "months" -- including iPhone and Centro? {Engadget}
Apr 3rd 2008 7:07AM I could see that they would launch by the start of the 3rd quarter (July/August time frame to ensure that it would make the holiday sales and not be out of stock like the original launch of the iPhone.) This would also make sense with the earlier announcement this year on the expansion of the 3G network. (Have they covered the top 100 markets yet with the HSPDA service?) I would think once the network is rolled out to the medium and smaller sized markets and there is better coverage we will see the 3G iPhone. After all what good is a 3G iPhone if you only have EDGE in your market?
Also what would it take for Palm to update the Centro to 3G? Just because it's not currently a 3G device doesn't mean that they couldn't revamp it. The Palm 750 is currently a 3G device so they should be able to upgrade the Centro very easily?

Mar 31st 2008 9:09PM What good will an upgrade to Win2000 be? Microsoft will not support it soon anyway. Hopefully Microsoft will step up and send him licenses for WinXP.
Sirius, XM reps chat up FCC, post-merger pricing detailed {Engadget}
Mar 28th 2008 4:50PM I didn't see an option to have a Sirius unit and an XM unit and get family plan pricing. I subscribe to both services and would just like to combine both into 1 bill and reduce the fee on one of the units so I'm not paying $12.95 for both. I don't want to have to go out and buy another radio just so I can reduce my monthly subscription fees. I'm sure there are other people out there that have 2 cars with factory installed radios 1 being Sirius and the other being XM. This should be a no brainer option.
I'm also disappointed that I will not be able to add MLB to my Sirius unit. I don't think it's worth the extra $4 per month just to get 11 extra XM select stations. What stations will they be? It would be great if they would give us the ability to change stations monthly through a web portal so we truly could have ala cart stations.
