Troubleshooting Security Update 2007-004 {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Apr 28th 2007 12:28AM I could not get the update to work on my 1.5GHz 12" powerbook 10.4.9. Software update would crash in the middle of running the update. I already had been planning to do an Archive Install to fix some kernel panics. After the Archive Install the update ran fine. The powerbook did reboot twice as others have noted.

Create a PDF listing of a folder's contents {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Feb 14th 2007 4:40PM Just use Terminal or X11 and > the results of ls into a text file.

ls . > list.txt

and then open the text file. It's a UNIX box, use the command line.

Apple TV up close {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jan 9th 2007 4:54PM It's basically an Airport Express for video the way I look at it. I was hoping it would have video in ports so it could be used as a DVR. When I get around to buying an HD TV I might pick up an AppleTV.

It's lowest supported resolution is 480p, right? No 480i for those of us stuck in the Stone Age?

Cingular launches "Cingular Music" {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 2nd 2006 1:56PM The over the air music service is only viable if Cingular has a 3G network up and running in a good number of major US markets. I doubt GPRS/EDGE has either the bandwidth or speed to support a music download service running at the same time as normal data/voice usage on the network.

The CDMA carriers can do music services because they upgraded their 1xRTT networks (at least in a good number of markets) to EV-DO, which can handle the bandwidth and are fast enough so downloading 4MB music files is bearable.

I'm supprised T-mobile didn't launch a service like the Cingular one. They could try to leverage their HotSpot network to get around the lack of over the (cellular) air ability.

Mark/Space releases Missing Sync for Windows Mobile 2.5 {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 20th 2006 2:25PM I've had good luck with Missing Sync 2.0 and my old iPaq rx3115. Never had a problem with Missing Sync itself. All problems have been with PPC2003 2nd Ed. on the iPaq.

Just upgraded to Missing Sync 2.5 . I cann't get iCal to sync properly with the iPaq. Looks like a pointer arithmetic error as Missing Sync whines about an out of bounds array. But 2.5 has been out for less than a day.

Get ready for 8 gig Nanos {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 20th 2006 1:55PM I thought we weren't suposed to post obvious mac rumors a la the whole iSight/Cinema Display thing?

The "Duh" factor: glossy, iSight Cinema Displays up next {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 18th 2006 8:25AM Stupid other website. Don't they know you aren't allowed to have Apple rumors unless they are sufficently impractical.

I mean what is the fun in posting rational speculation when you can say something crazy.

Like, let's say. The new PowerMac replacement will be made of cheese. And Leopard will actually be AmigaOS.

Safari's market share on the rise {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 7th 2006 11:37AM I am still deciding between Safari, Camino, and Firefox. I like Firefox's extensions and I like Safari's and Camino's ability to use the Keychain for password management.

I've been using Safari with PithHelmet put have been trying to justify $10 when Firefox and it's host of plugins are free.

Camino w/ CaminoTools is a nice browser but I hit some compatability issues with a couple websites I frequent.

I have a copy of Opera but I haven't used it enough to form an opinion. (I do like the Opera Mobile for my cell phone and my PDA though)

Of course all are inferior to Lynx.

New eMacs for September? {Engadget}

May 27th 2006 4:45PM It would also be smart to let consumers buy this also. Take a 15"/14" LCD + iSight + mac mini solo and then make it Bondi Blue for that old school feel.
