Sep 26th 2009 4:07AM Here is some additional details regarding smoking & the development of lung cancer, it is best advised to stop smoking after you are diagnosed with lung cancer as it will greatly improve your health & way of living.

If you already have lung cancer, it is best advised to stop smoking immediately. When you quit smoking, here are the benefits you achieve over time:

After 20 minutes - Your blood pressure will drop and heart rate beats will increase.

After 12 hours - The amount of Carbon Monoxide in your blood system drops to normal level.

After 2 weeks - 3 months - Lung function and circulation of blood from lungs to other organs of the body improves significantly.

After 1 - 9 Months - Shortness of breath & coughing decrease, functions of Cilia (small hair-like substances that get rid of Mucus from the lungs) become normal, your lungs become cleaner, and your risk of catching infections decreases.

After 1 year - Risk of Coronary heart diseases drops by 50%

After 5 years - Risk of Strokes drops to that of a non-smoker who quit smoking 5-15 years ago.

Growth Matters: King.com dominates games of skill online {Daily Finance}

Mar 15th 2009 11:51AM King.com hosts 40 million games? Wow that is amazing, it doesn't look like it when you go to their homepage. However, they do have a collection of nice Puzzle games like Deal or No Deal and Chuzzle, as well as 9 Ball Pool! However, I do not like the idea of having to pay for online games, as there are lot of free arcade game websites out there that provide these same games for free. An example is http://www.playonlinefreegames.net

Routine lung cancer screening gets thumbs down {The Cancer Blog}

Sep 24th 2008 2:48AM CT scans are a lot more advanced than other imaging & diagnostic procedures. Here are some of their useful benefits:

- CT scans allow the radiologist to see detailed views of the lungs & the pleura
- CT scans help determine the location, extent & size of tumor masses residing in the lungs more accurately than x-rays
- CT scans can reveal thickening of the pleura by examining the absorption rates of varying thickness levels of tissues
- CT scans can also indicate lung cancer beyond the pleura within the chest wall or lymph nodes
- CT scans can help evaluate the conditions of the lungs

Expert tips on preventing lung cancer {The Cancer Blog}

Mar 4th 2008 1:23AM Yes lessen those CT scans is a good idea, as well as not just relying on some vitamins. Infact, having a good diet & gardening also helps in preventing lung cancer - prevention is better than cure by the way!

Cancer scientists at the The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center say that by simply eating 4 or more servings of green salad a week, and doing their gardening once or twice a week, people (both smokers and non-smokers) will be able to substantially reduce their risks of developing lung cancer during their lifetimes. This is a matter of doing physical exercise by gardening, and having good nutrition by eating green salads and other healthy meals. Source: www.researchmesotheliomacancer.com

Participants (never smokers) who did gardening atleast once a week had a 40 - 46% less chance of developing lung cancer than those who did no gardening at all. For smokers, gardening atleast once a week reduce the risk of lung cancer development by atleast 33 - 45%. Forman says, "This finding is exciting because not only is it applicable to everyone, but it also may have a positive impact on the 15 percent of non-smokers who develop lung cancer."
