More Pantech Escapade shots emerge, sounding very low-end
We're not sure we understand the market for a global phone on Verizon that's so low-end that it doesn't even support 3G, but Pantech seems to understand it -- or at least it thinks it does -- with the latest info leaking out about its upcoming Escapade flip. The phone will apparently support CDMA with 1x data alongside GSM with GPRS data, which makes it next to useless to getting serious work done from your handset no matter where you happen to be in the world. Otherwise, it's expected to feature a 2 megapixel camera and a measly 2.5mm headphone jack, but it's said to be lacking a microSD slot -- something found on even the most basic phones for the last year or two. Global or not, this thing better be within a few bucks of free when it launches; as of right now, we don't know when that'll be.

Imagine this for a moment, a voice call. Simple? Yes. Effective? Yes. Not everyone need a half-assed-netbook/phone combo.

This is great for those who like to travel but don't want a PDA phone, but want something to take good pictures on when going somewhere.

Y doesnt verizon just switch to GSM already and join the rest of the world.
carcomptoy @ Jul 9th 2009 11:28AM
Yeah cause that would be cheap and easy, right?

Every National Carrier has there load of crap phones but they get the job done some people just want to talk and thats it..

Exactly. I'm sick of people bitching about every single phones that come out with every carrier. Don't these people understand that the carriers are asking for these low tier devices?!?!
Like he said some people just want a PHONE.

This thing screams "free with a 2 year contract" but it does look pretty nice.
wait, no micro sd slot?
now it screams "will give you $50 to take this phone and off our hands with a contract "

I am thoroughly impressed! I hopped in here thinking I could throw out my normal "them are fightin' words" remarks and start a small fire in here.
I am happy to say that the posters above me realize that all carriers have these phones in place for those not looking to control their iHome with their iGarbage. The majority of the mass market for cell phones only requires a few things in a cell phone: 1. quality phone 2. Better than sub-par service and call quality 3. the ability to make calls and send/receive few messages.
This phone, although very introductory, fits that to a T and will appeal to a lot of people wanting a free phone. That paired up with Verizon's excellent signal; they can't go wrong....
But it looks like Verizon has puked it's god awful UI on it, locked down Bluetooth and WHAT??? no WiFi?!?!?! man!
HAHAHAHA Totally playing! If you are still complaining about that BS...get a f*ckin laptop for God's sake!

actually this phone is an upgrade from VZW's other phones since its a GLOBAL phone none-the-less.
I don't understand why there's such thing as CDMA technology....if the majority of the world has GSM.
the majority of their phones aren't capable to roam with....and those that are....cost a fortune to roam compared to GSM roaming through international GSM.
besides .... if people want to get work done with their phone for business ... who would actually get a flip phone???
its a cool cheap phone for younger teens who are getting their first cell phones I believe.

CDMA has better call quality and is just a newer, better technology in general. South Korea only uses CDMA, Russia has it, and a handful of other civilised countries.
