T-Mobile's Touch Pro2 looks destined for August launch

We'd been holding out hope that T-Mobile's version of the HTC Touch Pro2 would materialize for customers in the month of July, but that's looking less and less likely now that we have some awfully real-looking documentation that claims otherwise. TmoNews has nabbed some sort of slide suggesting that HTC's latest AWS-equipped superphone won't hit retail until August 12 (with upgrades not kicking in until 10AM PT the same day, amusingly), so it seems like we've got over a month to wait yet. Meanwhile, the myTouch 3G will launch -- not to say it's a competitor, really, but it'll certainly be attracting some attention that this phone could be getting otherwise. Being fashionably late to the party isn't fun for anyone, is it?

No doubt. I can't wait until we have some confirmation of the CDMA version launch on either Sprint or Verizon, because based on the Snap/Ozone release, the other carrier won't be far behind.

I hate waiting for a new device, it's so damn frustrating.

I found this at pdadb.net/. It shows the Sprint and T-mobile TP2 as coming soon and listed as a release at July, 2009.

Just to let you know, we saw the same thing on pdadb with the Titan and Touch Pro1. 10 days ago it said June, now it says July, and in three weeks, it will say August.

Hi Chris: I normally agree with you, but even as an Android vs WinMo device, I still seeing both the myTouch 3G and the TP2 going head to head from a competitive standpoint especially since the myTouch will be equipped to work with Exchange.

Different audience maybe? There does exist some pretty hard core WinMo fans out there no doubt.

The myTouch will definitely be a bigger hit with the consumer type or young professional who likes a slim stylish feature rich phone with the features/apps it needs while the TP2 may have a following by longtime WinMo fans who are excited about 6.5 and who long for a slicker looking handset. Still not digging that resistive touchscreen though personally.

Sales wise I predict the myTouch will be a much bigger seller considering T-Mobile's larger mainly consumer driven demographic although their B2B base should expand if they offer more B2B style devices and services.

the problem is that the MyTouch will not be equipped to use Exchange, it needs 3rd party support just like the G1. Only HTC rom has Exchange support, but if the rom is altered then Google does not allow them to label the device "with GOOGLE" silk screened on the back. Since T-mobile sees a value in the Google branding they are not using the HTC rom and therefore no native Exchange support. Case and point is Rogers in Canada, their G1 and Magic (MyTouch) do not say with Google, but they do have Exchange support. There is always XDA developers for non T-Mobile roms :)

I support both BlackBerry's and WinMo devices at work. The only guys who insist on WinMo are the 35+ crowd whose old experiences with BlackBerry 7250's have scarred them for life and forever against other devices.

WinMo is useful and has its place, but I believe younger pro's will seek other options that reflect their style and personality if applicable.

I can honestly say that the Sprint version will be THE one to have. Better data netork / overall Everything Plans. When carriers feel the need to alter the hardware, it can take forever for the device to show up on competing networks i.e. Verizon's Diamond. The AT&T FUZE was weak. The Touch Pro on Sprint was the better device all around. Wonder if it's an overall cost saving tactic but it hurts the overall experience since the device feels outdated compared to other versions and you know that will be told in the various reviews we're all sure to see when this device drops. Do the right thing and just change the carrier's CDMA / GSM chips but leave the awesomeness of what HTC built alone! Should be an awesome device once it busts out the gate this fall either way!

How was the FUZE weak? The ONLY thing stripped was the camera and Sprint's version didn't have that either.

PeterF- If I remember correctly, the FUZE had the same 5 row QWERTY without the numbers on the top row and they kept the same diamond style backplate. I found the Sprint version to a little more streamlined in appearance and overall just a faster device eventhough they were pretty much the same in terms of overall specs. Purely my opinion, of course. I agree with the ommission of the cameras on the front. Would've been cool to have. Perhaps once the 4G stuff gets rolling or they optimize the current 3G band to handle the video data load. Here's a cool quickie look at the Pro and the Fuze from when they both launched.
