Nokia N97 getting firmware 1.1 on July 1
There's no shortage of complaints -- some minor, some not-so-minor -- about the shipping firmware in the N97s that are already out in the field (our wonky backlight comes immediately to mind), but fortunately, it seems that Nokia's looking to tackle the issues perhaps more proactively than it's ever done before. Nokia Conversations' official Twitter account has announced that the "first variants" of the N97 (which we would take to mean the North American version, since the US got it first) will be blessed with firmware 1.1 starting on July 1, which hopefully will be available over-the-air without any Nokia Software Updater silliness. No word on what exactly will be changed in the new release, but honestly, if we can just get the LL Cool J startup screen, that'll be good enough for us.

I always like an update - but I can't say my N97 has been a huge bother either. I love it so far...only had maybe 1 glitch after 2 weeks of use.

It's said that multitouch will be supported, any thoughts on that? http://www.howardforums.com/showpost.php?p=12761445&postcount=23

I think the official changelog confirmed that was bs :(

@CanadianEh
You need to read the rest of that thread. That entire summary of the FW update was confirmed to be fake.

Thanks, my bad.

I look forward to a firmware update, but I love my N97 so far. I have only had it for a couple of days, but I love this phone! My previous phone was a Nokia N85, so I am like a duck to water with the N97. There have been some problems with Nokia Messaging (had to uninstall it so the phone wouldn't keep crashing), but so far I have found it more stable than my N95 was.

This is reportedly the real change log. It does seem more realistic for a v1.1 update

This site confuses me. How does this not make the main Engadget page but a code to view Pre email in landscape does?
