HTC Hero up for pre-order on Amazon UK: £429, July 15 delivery
We doubt the July 15 delivery date is set in stone, but UK residents itching to get a little Hero in their lives are now able to pre-order HTC's latest for £429 ($708). That's pretty much what we'd expect for an unlocked set, but Orange is planning to offer the Hero free on contract, so we'd be inclined to hang on just a teensy bit longer. Video after the break.

Hahah yeah thats the same thing I was thinking when I clicked play.
Amazingly I dont think I've EVER seen that video, I've only heard the song is 80/ early 90 films and such and erm .. most recently Shrek.... *coughs*
But anywhom, I'm a Orange UK customer so I'm looking forward to July :-), shame the Samsung Galaxy/i7500 is not being mentioned yet in the UK coming from an LG Viewty I just cant wait for it to come out (If the Galaxy even comes to Orange).

Ah, Also its nice to know what the unlocked box contents are (source amazon.co.uk):
* HTC Hero 3G Android Sim Free mobile phone
* Quick start guide
* Screen protector
* Travel charger
* Mini-USB data cable
* Standard battery
* Wired stereo headset with 3.5 mm connector
* Accessory leaflet
* 2 GB microSD card
Hopefully the Orange package would have a bigger SD card

I am thinking about buying an unlocked htc magic with android 1.5 pre-installed. I would like to know if I will receive the ota updates over wifi even though I will be using the at&t 3g iphone network? This would be a deal breaker for me. Would it work on any unlocked htc magic I might buy or maybe even an htc hero unlocked? I just need to know if I will receive future updates for the android os on whatever android phone I buy. Any kind of help would be appreciated.

@ $700, I'm singing
"We don't need another hero
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the thunderdome"

I'm also thinking about getting an unlocked android phone to use on at&t. I haven't found out if OTA updates would work since I believe the updates are released by the carriers, but you should be able to update manually somehow as a last resort.
If you're planning on getting an unlocked magic make sure you get the Canadian Rogers version if you want it to be compatible with at&t's 3G network. All of the other versions will only work over the slow edge network. Unfortunately the Hero is also incompatible with at&t 3G at this time, but I'm sure they'll release another version eventually.

Hopefully either AT&T gets it in the states or some version of it is sold that will support the AT&T bands.
