Android lovingly, painstakingly ported to Samsung's Omnia

This project's a few days old, but it's so cool that we wanted to bring it to your attention anyway: "andromnia." From the name, you might be able to gather that this is all about porting Android to the Samsung Omnia, which represents the marriage of one awesome piece of hardware with one very awesome platform, as far as we're concerned. Of course, a project of this magnitude requires hackery of the highest order, and the going's not easy -- things like "calling" don't readily work at the moment -- but it appears to be actively developing, so if you've got an Omnia handy and WinMo isn't really your bag, we'd recommend keeping an eye on this.

Rosie is the Sense UI that was unveiled on the Hero. HTC's own little touch to the native OS UI. Much like TouchFLO for WinMo. so Sense is Rosie

cool. this is what i always thought Android was supposed to be anyway. people kept saying "oh well i'm just going to run Android on such-and-such phone" but that really hasn't materialized for whatever reason (at least to the best of my knowledge). good to see it actually happening though, we certainly need more options in the way of smartphone OSes.

wow great my dad loves omnia and hes planing on buying one

is there any way we can sujjest stuff to the developers
like
1-specify like 1 inch in the botom of the screen for meny and home and back
2-use sence its amazing
3-oh and how will u deal with the lack of a compas

please do it cause the omnia is a great phone

the screen on this device is so low-res that labeling it as an awesome piece of hardware really insults my intelligence. especially coming from a site that focuses primariy on new technologies. having said this, it is nice to see projects like this one becomming more prevelant.
