Palm Treo Pro relaxes out of the spotlight, sheds $150
At $549, you might say that the Treo Pro is a tough pill to swallow in the face of ever-sexier competition from other WinMo devices and Palm's own Pre -- but at $399 fully unlocked, it becomes a more interesting proposition. For four bills, Palm's now offering a fully unlocked, Windows Mobile Professional device with a 320 x 320 display, US-spec HSDPA, and a new-look industrial design that -- in retrospect, anyway -- foretells the Pre's design more than it pays homage to the Treos that preceded it. For the record, that's $150 off, which undercuts some of the traditionally inexpensive resellers like Amazon -- pretty crazy for a first-party store. Any takers?

Tempting alternative but HTC with its pretty skins and VGA goodness can't even get me back to WinMo now! soooo slooooow!

I got one for free and decided to replace my tilt. I am waiting for the android offerings before buying a new phone - i really would like one of the Samsung Android devices with OLED and hi res screen. Tied for second would be the i-phone/HTC Firestone.

Hopefully that means the GSM Pre is coming soon so they're clearing the Treo Pro stock.

It's a good business phone for people like my ad manager.
He needs corporate Exchange email, yet is pretty brutal on phones. One of these with a silicon skin and a screen protector should keep him functioning for a year or so. ;)
Me...waiting for the TP2.

If I don't wind up buying a G1 from T-Mobile this weekend I'm going to pick one of these up. Tired of my crappy Motorola that has worse sound quality than a tin can on a string.

Why do you guys keep reporting on the Treo Pro as if it's $549 everywhere with-new-contract? I know you guys only use GSM (unless some of you own a Pre now), but the Treo Pro has available on contract for $199 from Sprint and Alltel a very long time, frequently discounted to $149 or $99 on promotions.
In contrast, when you report on other phones (ones that you like better) such as the Pre or the iPhone, you always only stick with the with-new-contract prices. Why?
Your title should read 'Unlocked Palm Treo Pro'. Be more honest in your reporting, guys.

Yes, but who in their right mind would choose to use a CMDA phone/network? I love the simplicity of popping out my SIM card and inserting it into a different phone and having it work, without having to do anything extra like change registration and junk. Also, GSM is used pretty much worldwide, meaning I can go to the UK, Germany, all over Europe and much of Asia, and my phone with work with little to no trouble. Add to that the fact that Alltel (now mixed into Verizon) has poor service, poor support, and higher prices (and I have an Alltel contract as well at the moment, so this is first hand experience), I can't see any reason to use CMDA.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is, who cares about CMDA?
PhilR8 @ Jun 23rd 2009 2:52PM
@ZetaCannon: CMDA? You're certainly an expert.

Great, so I swapped the M and D in CDMA. So sue me. That doesn't make my statements any less true.
