Close to 700,000 Palm Pre apps downloaded to date

There may not be a ton of Pre apps available just yet, but it looks like there's enough to accumulate an impressive 666,511 downloads as of June 17th, which likely means that we're close to or past the 700,000 mark by now. As you can see above in graph form courtesy of Medialets, things have been rising steadily as more and more apps became available, and there's no noticeable sign of a drop-off even as apps remained around the 30 mark after the end of the first week. Of course, it's obviously still a little early to draw any firm conclusions, and there's no telling how things could shake out once the long-awaited PreFart and PreBeer apps make their debut.

Ya, you're certainly doing a lot to help the Pre fanboy appearance. Keep up the good work there.
On a serious note, it is likely that most of the apps released so far are actually useful and many people want to download them at the very least to try them out. I bet it will eventually level out... but it will probably be a while b/c I'm sure there are still many truly useful apps yet to be released that the Pre people are waiting for.

No it should be the iPhone is the tool for making $ in mobile dev!

That's actually really impressive given the smaller user base and number of apps. 2 years of iPhone AND iPod touch sales vs one month of Pre sales. I'd say 700,000 is impressive.
And I bet they weren't all fart apps.

Guys don't get me wrong on that post......I'm NOT, I repeat NOT an iPhone person. Though I respect the phone itself and it's capabilities. AT&T can screw. I'm a loyal T-mo user. Hell I moved from a strong 3g market in Boston to south Louisiana and I'm still sticking with t-mo.
I like the Pre, or at least the concept of it and it's capabilities. I'm an Android person actually. I'm patiently waiting for the Samsung i7500 to head this way.
That being said.....My earlier comment was to say to the uuuuuuwwwwwww WE have 50k+ apps and counting folks out there......Shut the hell up. We GET it......the iPhone is great....we know. By the way. How many apps did it have in the first year? You know in the amount of time the G1's been out (8-9months), or even better the Pre (WEEKS).
Our systems will get there.....possibly even faster than iPhones did (3 YEARS and counting). And they probably won't have 20-30 different fart apps and all the other shit apps out there for it.
I'm TRYING to be objective about it because competition can only be good for the end users. ALL of us even the iPhoners.
We'll see.
