Rogers must know a good thing when it sees it, because it's essentially copied
AT&T's modified plans for providing deeper subsidies to more customers looking to upgrade to an
iPhone 3G S in the next few weeks. The details are just a little bit different though: with Rogers, the new deal is that anyone who bought an iPhone 3G between July 11 and September 30 of 2008 -- and has averaged CAD $100 or more a month on their bill -- will be able to nab the 16GB or 32GB for $199 and $299, respectively, on a three-year contract. Buyers between July 11 and December 31 of last year or who didn't manage to average $100 a month will get the less heavily-discounted prices of $449 and $549, while any customer will be able to waltz in and spend $699 or $799, a princely sum indeed.

I'd like to know how many dumbasses spent over 100$ on their cell phone bill..........
Someone is going to say "LOT'S OF PEOPLE HAVE MANNN"........very unfortunate.
ALBGunner04 @ Jun 19th 2009 11:09AM
Exactly, it seems like only idiots (or business people who use a crap load of data on their device) qualify for this. This is the reason why I hate buying phones from operators. The bullshit they impose on you can cause you to pay much more for a subsidized device than if you bought it unsubsidized.
LisaGee @ Jun 19th 2009 9:10AM
At&t was a lie... if you spent $98 they won't upgrade you.. man I wish T-Mobile buys At&crap
ALBGunner04 @ Jun 19th 2009 11:10AM
I wish T-Mobile would come to Canada. I would most likely switch over if it did (of course, it would have to have plans that would model their European counterparts/U.S. counterparts aka no 3 year contracts and reasonable plans)
johns @ Jun 19th 2009 9:19AM
I think $100 is kind of deep. $60-70 will be more reasonable.
If you are willing to spend that much on a phone, then don't go cheap on the plan.
It's funny my friends are using $20 plan with no internet access running around looking for WiFi.
Ravnos @ Jun 19th 2009 10:51AM
People go cheap on the plan because Rogers gouges like crazy on data. If you're lucky enough to get in on the 6GB/$30 promo, it's actually not bad, but that promo ends at the end of July and requires a 3 year commitment plus an iPhone purchase. After that, it's 5GB for $80 at the high end and 500MB for $25 at the low end. So yeah, I think I'll keep searching for wifi and save my $80/month until Rogers can stop being dicks and offer that 6GB plan for everybody month-to-month.
Robber$$$ @ Jun 20th 2009 4:11AM
Ideally they want you to have a voice plan that is at least $30. Currently, they wont let you have an iphone without a data plan. Yes, that's right, they wont allow you to buy a phone without a data plan either.
Add that to the SAF, taxes, emergency fee, and Visual Voicemail pack and you are looking at alot of money per month.

I spend like $170 a month for my plan but I have two lines. So I wonder if they would allow for that. The thing is, the cheapest plan with AT&T for FamilyTalk is $60 and then when you add the data that's another $60 for the two lines. That's already $120 before you even add texting. So with Family Unlimited Text, that's another $30 for a grand total of $150 plus tax.
But, I must say that they've gotta do something about those three year contracts up there in Canada. I can barely stand a two year contract and sometimes I wish I only had a one year. But three years! Wow!
Cam @ Jun 19th 2009 10:34AM
Interesting. My bill is about $99.50 a month and has been since I got my phone. I wonder if they'll bend .50¢ and let me get away with it.
ALBGunner04 @ Jun 19th 2009 11:12AM
Knowing Rogers, they're very easy to persuade.
And how are you spending so much on your bill if you don't mind me asking?
Cam @ Jun 19th 2009 11:38AM
Here's my breakdown:
Pooled Family Eve/Wkend Plan 20.00
Data Service Plan 6GB 30.00
iPhone Value Pack+VVmail 15.00
MY5 Canada Wide 15.00
9-1-1 Emergency Access Fee 0.50
System Access Fee 6.95
nthn @ Jun 19th 2009 11:01AM
Ok. I guess I won't be getting the 3Gs. My bill is about $96 a month. Crap.
Robber$$$ @ Jun 20th 2009 4:10AM
you forgot to add that they make you extend your contract by an additional year
That would mean you have 3 MORE YEARS of your 4 YEAR CONTRACT
It doesn't seem worth it because next year Apple will come out with another phone. What are you gonna do, extend your contract again? Its almost like you're selling your soul with these never-ending contracts
Shane @ Jun 21st 2009 2:15AM
I sold my iPhone and really don't miss it. I surely don't miss spending 100.00 on a cell phone. The price is ridiculous with AT&T; actually all iPhone plans the world over seem like a ripoff. But, as long as fools keep buying them the prices will never come down. There is no reason (other than pure greed) a cell phone should cost over 50.00 a month with everything. All of this data and texting really costs the providers as close to nothing as possible, yet people will pay like sheep what they ask. Bah bah bah.
Ditch the iPhone, get a cheap phone from Virgin Mobile and get a life. Virgin Mobile has great plans that are affordable with no contracts. I get 300 anytime, 1000 night/weekend and 1000 texts for 35.00 a month. If you are a heavy user, you can get unlimited anytime minutes and unlimited texts for 60.00 a month which would be 120.00 plus taxes on AT&T. No, I can't play on the internet everywhere I go, but I honestly don't find the internet an enjoyable experience in a 3.5 inch screen anyway. If AT&T were pricing the plans like they should for the real world they should cost approximately:
450 Anytime/5000 Night/Weekend: $29.99
Iphone/Smartphone Unlimited Data & Texts: $19.99
No, I don't work for Virgin Mobile, but I don't mind giving them some word of mouth advertising. It's nice to not feel cheated and taken for granted by a company. Something AT&T users certainly can't appreciate.
