Sony Ericsson bracelet phone concept unearthed in patent app
Yeah, we can probably safely leave this one in the file we found it in: you know, the one marked "never going to happen." Regardless, when we spied this little dude on Unwired View, we thought we'd pass along the weirdness. Unearthed in a Sony Ericsson patent application mysteriously dubbed "Mobile Terminal," what we have here is a bracelet mobile phone concept, sort of reminiscent of LG's infamous GD910 watch phone. This one's got some added fun in the form of keys on the side of the wristband for a fuller typing experience. Like we said, it's never going to happen, but that won't really stop us from hoping.

i tell ya, phone watches, calculator watches, game watches, walkie talkie watches, almost anything built into a watch used to seem so cool to me when i was little but not it just doesn't seem practical at all. i realize this is technically a bracelet but either way, i feel like some designers need to let go of their childhood already. i can't ever see these catching on.

The wrist is one of the few places on the body you can comfortably carry something (thin) all day without it getting in your way and annoying you. Great for people prone to setting things down and forgetting them. If phones stopped getting smarter and got smaller instead, a wrist phone could be fine. Not everybody needs to watch Youtube on their phone.
The iPod Shuffle is probably the high water mark of tiny electronics today. It's certainly small enough to wear on a wristband, or anywhere else that makes sense. It's not hard to imagine it as a simple voice-dialing-only phone. A wireless connection of any kind would eat battery life, so it'd have to be quite a bit larger to hold enough energy to make a few hours of calls.
