It boggles the mind that Palm is still totally silent on the issue of global
Pre availability; yes, granted, Apple employed similar foot-dragging following the original iPhone's launch, but the difference there was that Apple was under way, way less pressure from consumers and investors to immediately deliver a monster hit. We've heard rumblings
as recently as late May that Telefonica has signed a deal to deliver the Pre on its various networks around the world, but since then, nothing -- and that's where some scrappy little distributor in Romania comes into play. A company called IRIS -- a smartphone distributor for years and Romania's authorized Apple outlet -- says that the Pre will be hitting shelves over there in September for something in the range of $550 unsubsidized, putting it right in range with what Sprint is charging off contract. Of course, by September, the Pre will be fighting a readily available
iPhone 3G S and gobs of new
Android sets, but webOS itself already proves that the new Palm knows how to work under pressure.

At least Pre's price is decent. Sim-unlocked iPhone 3G S goes for 620 and 720 euros. I'll keep the 3G and wait for the Pre.

Can Palm atleast try to provide Pre's to their previous obligation of Sprint Customers before they go out to the Romanian market. I am sure people in Romania would love to have this phone as well but please finish what you have started in the US. Anyone at Palm if reading please note.

I don't suppose anyone else noticed that they mention Telefonica, which is Vodafone and O2, which both are GSM, which means they could also release to AT&T! YAY!

This is annoying.. with the availability of 3GS and other Android phones, most people esp. those early adopters that got their hand into the first gen iPhone can no longer wait further for palm pre... they should at least announced a release date in Asia/Europe. I think this is just bad strategy. They have not had the same reputation like Apple. People are willing to hold and wait for Apple's products. But palm is not there yet.... By mid of Aug, if no date is released, most of us around the world will decide to go for 3GS or Android. This is the only window of opportunity that palm has..... (considering that most of us can only afford 1 phone every two year)
