Sprint confirms direct HTC Snap sales for June 21
Some folks are already having luck scooping these things up at Best Buy and / or Radio Shack (you can snag it from the big box for $520 off contract), but if you like your phone sales direct, hang tight -- the Snap isn't far off. Sprint has told InformationWeek that the WinMo Standard device -- likely the first version of it to launch stateside in front of T-Mobile and Verizon -- will be launching on the 21st of this month for $149 on contract after rebates. That still puts it a solid $50 behind the E71x's aggressive $99 on-contract price over on AT&T, but if you're a WinMo diehard or you've got to be on Sprint, this might be your best option going.

The photo is a little misleading. The actual Sprint version was already unboxed by WMExperts & looks like this:

Touch Pro 2 comes out in July.... Roughly 3 weeks-4 weeks after the snap.

Sorry, I should've made it clearer in the post that we were using a generic unbranded Snap picture from our hands-on at CTIA. We haven't yet run any news about Sprint-branded Snaps in buyers' hands, and I didn't want to confuse the matter here -- we'll definitely be following up on this story, though.

Another big competitive detail that you overlooked was the currently available new Samsung Jack on AT&T for the same $99 pricing as the Nokia E71. When doing a side by side comparison between the WM Standard Samsung Jack and the HTC Snap you will find that the Jack has Wi-Fi and the Snap does not. The Jack has a 3.2 camera and the Snap has 2.0. Why pay more for less? A little less HTC fixation here would probably be a good thing. Many reviews of the Jack are coming in very positively as the device to watch for WM Standard.

No offense, but I don't know what's up with this love-affair with HTC products. I picked up a FUZE (returned it 3 days later) and the build quality and performance was suspect at best (this was after 5 diff. roms). As far as the SNAP....this looks like a blackberry reject from 2002.

I couldn't agree more. Their build quality is lacking on most handsets and their designs are generally unattractive(at least to this person's eyes).

Tim P, that more for less comment fits right nicely when comparing networks too. For that same $70 you get 450 with (both), data (both), email (both), nav (Sprint), TV (Sprint), Radio (Sprint), unlimited messaging (Sprint) and a faster more dependable network in more places. $50 up front versus hundreds over the course of the contract is a good trade off

Don,
No question that the Sprint calling plan options are all about paying less and getting more. My comment was more to Chris stating that the only other option to the Snap was the Nokia E71. I have had a lot of HTC devices and while they are fairly innovative, each new release always seems to have 1 or 2 overlooked "omissions in the feature set. Something rather dated like a lousy camera resolution, Video Drivers missing, over matched slow processor, etc. It seems like they intentionally build in something just enough to keep you hungry for the next upgrade. Palm used to always due this kind of thing and it drove me nuts.
Samsung seems to be one of the hungriest innovators putting out new stuff both in terms of quantity and quality although like every OEM, they don't always hit the sweet spot either.

I Saw a Snap at a Radio Shack in the Mall today....They had a display up for the Exclaim but oddly there was no phone there. The Snap is a Good sized phone....it actually feels like a Curve But half as Thick. They wanted 450 Off contract, which is a fair price in my opinion. I wish it had the Trackball, but RIM would have sumthin to say about that....then again, a trackball like the G1's wouldnt be bad either.
I went A few stores down in the mall to the Sprint Store and they Confirmed it would be in stock by the 21st.

I think you will see sprint be very successful with the new HTC snap running windows mobile. I think the main reason is because this particular phone blends two different types of users. The blackberry user will benefit from the new technology and by having windows mobile and the historical windows mobile user can upgrade to this new device and ultimately to windows mobile 6.5.
