HTC Fuze getting big, beautiful firmware update shortly?
The link appears to have been pulled for the moment, but HTC briefly offered a promising firmware update for AT&T's Fuze that brings a variety of goodies to the carrier's branded version of the Touch Pro. Among other things, you get AKU6, a new version of Voice Command, PTT button reassignability (because -- let's be honest -- not many people are using PTT on this device), an FM radio app, improved TouchFLO performance, and faster GPS locking. Again, the link's currently dead -- but here's hoping it comes back shortly (or at the very least, before the Fortress drops).[Via Mobility Site and WMExperts]

Here's hoping it comes to Sprint as well. I would love FM radio access

The radio is a nice touch, just needs the wired headset to work. I have all of these features with a solid cooked ROM, and it really is very nice. 10x better than the factory ROM. IMO the hardware is great, and now we finally have an OS to match.

i was thinkin the same thing.. the geniuses at xda have unlocked the diamond fm radio on cdma.. but they move so fast im sure they got the new rom before the link wit dead and will have it picked apart by the end of the week.. so we should know shortly

this is kind of pointless because the touch pro 2 is coming out soon they should be working on firmwares and updates for that so they wont have to come out with a new device every year.

HTC's business model basically depends on them coming out with new devices every year, so I doubt they're going to stop doing that no matter how good the firmware is.

Not releasing firmware updates for previous models would be business suicide. No customer in their right mind would by any device knowing that the manufacturer will not support the device once the new model comes out.

Nothing you can't get on the cooked roms on xda. Da_G even got A-GPS fully working (not enabled on stock AT&T roms)

Well, I guess this is both a confirmation of how slow the Fuze sales are now that people know the TP2 is coming, as well as an indication of how much longer it will be until AT&T gets the TP2. This appears to be a move to try and make current TP owners happy enough to not jump carriers, as well as get a few more in the months before they sell the TP2. Maybe AT&T will get back on track (Tmobile is hopeless) with the HTC releases instead of delaying them so long.
For TP2 owners, those updates are pretty sweet.

Wouldn't it be easier to just get the Touch Pro 2 on Sprints network??? AT&T has the worst network around unless you like the "Edge" cause their 3G is a joke.
apw76006 @ May 29th 2009 11:47PM
Just release the firmware update already. Personally, I have no plans to upgrade to the the TP2, and the only reason why is the lack of a flash. Why have a decent mobile camera and limit it with no flash? It's just as frustrating as having to remove the battery cover to replace/change your microSDHC card.

Sounds like it's the customary last fixes-rom before a device is retired.
canobeano @ Jun 3rd 2009 1:30PM
It's available right now 6/3/09

The download site is up again. I just did it yesterday but am now having problems changing my ring tone to anything but the stock sounds and Java seems to be disabled so Opera wont work (IE works fine...go figure). Any thoughts?
Really love the phone and glad I picked it over the IPhone.
