RIM CEO: "SurePress is here to stay"

In a scandalous, but not entirely shocking turn of events, RIM CEO Mike Lazaridis has declared from the stage of D7 in no uncertain terms that "SurePress is here to stay." The trouble is, there's no clarification of what he means by that, since the Storm 2 we've been toying with quite obviously lacks a click-screen mechanism. Our best shot-in-the-dark guess is that RIM has developed some alternative to a physical click that may or may not duplicate the functionality adequately, while hopefully removing some of the frustration experienced by the physical click of the Storm. What is clear is that apparently whatever face-saving technology that turns out to be, Mike and co. plan on calling it SurePress.

After all that "What will it FEEL like?" marketing, and all of those clicking screen commercials (some of which still run), it's really no surprise they want to keep SurePress around in some form.. I mean, all that time building the Storm's media presence around it.. I'd want to keep a bit of it around, too.

ive seen new commercials the past couple weeks that advertise touching not clicking on the new storm..

Do you think that maybe they will be releasing the "Storm 2" as a device with a new technology called truepress (no click) and releasing other models of the storm and other phones with surepress as well? Maybe they want to have multiple touch technologies.

Um, maybe that's why on the unit Engadget has, they can't get past the licence screen. Maybe it's supposed to have surepress but doesn't/it's broken, so they can't click the accept button.

For the love of gawd NO!!! If there's an actual clicky-clicky built in to the Storm2, I'll be passing on that iteration. The Storm (1) was bad enough and you think they'd have learned their lesson on that one.

Yes, I DO own a Storm and yes, I AM one of the many thousands of DIS-satisfied customers that actually was "sucker" enough to buy a phone that wasn't properly designed, and now hasn't been properly supported with software since it's release.
