We know that
Sprint,
Verizon, and
T-Mobile are all getting versions of the
Touch Pro2, but what about little ol' AT&T? Turns out that device is codenamed "Fortress," and it'll accompany a
Touch Diamond2 version known as "Warhawk" to market this summer. The Fortress is actually listed as targeted for May 25, which seems a bit unrealistic -- but we think the document we're looking at is a little stale, so we're sure the inevitable delay has crept into the schedule by now. It's expected to launch with WinMo 6.1 AKU6 (presumably upgradeable to 6.5 down the road) with full HSPA on three bands, AGPS, a 3.2 megapixel AF cam, 3.6-inch WVGA display, and Video Share support. Curiously, the bottom of the slide mentions that a "WM 7.X refresh" is in the works with a September 2009 launch date, which underscores the fact that this slide is likely a little old -- there's no way anything running Windows Mobile 7 is hitting this year if 6.5 will just be coming to market in volume toward the holiday season.
Meanwhile, the Warhawk -- AT&T's Touch Diamond2 -- gets a 3.2-inch WVGA display, dual-band HSDPA, AGPS, and Video Share, but unlike the Fortress, it's scheduled to launch with Windows Mobile 6.5 installed out of the gate. It's targeted for August 24, so we'll see how closely they can stick to that.

They will have front facing cameras!?! Does this mean AT&T is launching video calling?
Ravicai @ May 25th 2009 1:18AM
Bleh. These phones are crippled by the old qualcomm 528mhz cpu. Expect woefully inadaquate performance. Don't waste your money. Wait for the next line of CPUs; qualcomm 1ghz snapdragon, nVidia Tegra, or TI's quad core mobile.
surly @ May 25th 2009 1:43PM
the TP2 looks fake, or AT&T screwed up the keyboard. the keys should be staggered.
I am also thinking of waiting to the snapdragon processors...
M @ May 24th 2009 7:54PM
no att logo on those devices. they're probably just place holders.
uletel @ May 24th 2009 7:57PM
HTC Warhawk is said to have only 3,2-megapixel camera, but HTC Touch Diamond is equipped with 5-megapixel camera... Something strange.
PeterF @ May 24th 2009 8:11PM
Thats how the unbranded HTC versions are, too.
Bourne @ May 24th 2009 8:16PM
Why did HTC opt for a weaker camera in the TP2? I was wondering that....it makes it less appealing
James Bond @ May 24th 2009 8:23PM
Note the Home key instead of the Windows logo key. I hope that that is just a stand-in because one of the requirements for WM6.5 is the Windows logo key.
riverblue2004 @ May 24th 2009 8:23PM
I like how after the repetitive attempts from the consumers to ask to NOT CHANGE THE KEYBOARD LAYOUT, they have completely redesigned the keyboard anyway... like. a COMPLETE redesign... what a waste.
Bourne @ May 24th 2009 8:33PM
Anyone Notice the "Z" and "Y" keys are in opposite places?
Jeff @ May 24th 2009 8:40PM
That means it is a QWERTZ keyboard placeholder, which are common in German speaking countries. That phone is fuckin hot. I will definately be getting a TP2 with that beautiful red.
mobiquizoid @ May 24th 2009 8:48PM
This keyboard better be a prototype. Otherwise the people for both AT&T and HTC that came to a consensus on going to manufacturing with this garish ruination of the perfection that is the stock Touch Pro2 keyboard, should be fired. Nay they should be hung!
Bourne @ May 24th 2009 8:48PM
I'm not sure I really like the Red/Burgundy...I'm still waiting to find out what ther HTC "Superstar" device will be aswell.
Richard @ May 24th 2009 10:06PM
Not real.
QWERTZ keyboard.
American carrier.
Not real.
gch42 @ May 24th 2009 10:14PM
This will make up for AT&T screwing us out of the Omnia. In fact, I think this will be a better phone than the Omnia.
Soriin @ May 24th 2009 10:32PM
Those pictures are from the really old mockup/prototypes that used to appear on people's really old planning documents. Even tmob had that tp2 photo on their plans back in the day and it ended up being what it is today, so I wouldn't take those to mean much at all.
HAZE @ May 24th 2009 10:55PM
Whenever they release it, I'm upgrading my Tilt. I love the Tilt and this is more of a true next gen Tilt than the Fuze since HTC decided to ditch the "Tilt" feature.
I'm not really feeling the red keyboard though. Let's hope they decide to stick with black.
aoi tsuki @ May 25th 2009 3:20AM
If you read the accompanying sales sheet for the Touch Pro 2, you'll see it mentions a 5-row keyboard, like the unlocked HTC version. Also, if you remember the leaked HTC roadmap of devices, you'll remember the Rhodium (stock Touch Pro 2 codename) having a burgundy keyboard, while still retaining the staggered key layout. i'm guessing this custom layout is an early prototype design they tossed around before they went with the current design, and dropped the burgundy color for silver.
Of course, they list the Touch Diamond 2 as having a 3.2 megapixel camera, when the stock version has a 5 megapixel camera, so who knows?

Wrong, wrong, wrong. This seems real fake to me or somehting produced months ago and meant for the shredder bu someonne resurrected it. How is it that a major company would put out so much inaccurate information like this so close to release? If this is official annnouncement, then shame on ATT to allow so many inaccuracies. Shame on them for messing up the HTC Touch Pro 2 keyboard rows and key arrangement. Shame on them for doing the same with the TD 2. I do recall a post on some website months ago showing all the HTC releases this year by arrier. The ATT vesion did look somehting like this and it was not the TP2 or TD 2 but some other model but it was not by the names Warhawks or Fortress. In war, this seems to be purposely misleading just to mess with the publoic and keep them guessing. But it makes ATT look pretty lame.
ckillam3 @ May 25th 2009 9:45PM
Did you notice that the HTC in your picture had a QWERTZ keyboard? Is this new?
Tim Layton @ Jun 4th 2009 2:26PM
The HTC Diamond 2 running windows mobile 6.5 is an absolute homerun for microsoft windows mobile and HTC as well.
jules @ Jun 11th 2009 12:08PM
do you think they will have an unlocked version of this phone and NOT look like the one in the prototype (if it is a fake one)? I know the orignial TP had an unlock version, do you think they would do the same with this one?
Nick @ Jul 14th 2009 12:44PM
They'll probably take the the user facing camera out, but I really hope AT&T will leave them in this time. Even if they think the network cant support video calling now, it will be able to at some point. Highways in the US cant handle everyone driving at 100mph, but that doesn't mean all the cars here are artificially capped at 70mph
