DigiTimes has a couple of back-to-back rumors from its industry sources that could be of interest to Nokia fans. Yesterday, the Taiwanese rumor rag said that Nokia will adopt a Synaptics touchscreen integrated circuit (which may or may not support multi-touch) solution for an upcoming "high-end handset" due for launch in the 3rd quarter of 2009. To be clear, this is not the
N97 which is expected to go on sale in June. Now
DigiTimes adds that capacitive touch panel orders from Nokia have been received from Wintek, the same supplier fitting Nokia's
5800 with resistive touchscreens. We're big fans of silky smooth, capacitive glass panels on finger-friendly touchscreen phones so we'll be stoked if these rumors prove true.

Hmm.. There were rumours that it would be the new model to replace the 5800. 5900 maybe?
I got in on the preorder for the n97, so i really hope that nokia won't release a new "super high end" headset so short after the n97.

They will release a super high end...just a keyboardless N97

I got in on the preorder for the N97 too, and I'm convinced that it's a great phone for me, capacitive touchscreen or not. I'm not so interested in touch in any phone as I am in good/decent camera, video recording, multitasking, good 3G reception and QWERTY.

Yeah, so basically the 5801 or 5900 or whatever nokia will call it, since the 5800 doesnt have a popout keyboard.
What i was talking about was something like the n97 on steroids, giving the unit all the things that it should have had to make it more competitive with the omnia HD - more than 128mb ram, a dedicated gpu, 8mp cam that records 720p, and OLED display to go with the capacitive screen.

I can't imagine Nokia would release two flagship-type phones in the same calender year. Not only would it piss off customers but it's just bad business sense. Why neuter sales of the initial N97?

I have the 5800 and am pretty impressed with it so far. I have gotten old enough to not care anymore. It doesn't matter what product you get, it will become obsolete within six months, sometimes less. Probably as soon as you walk out the door of the store or sign for it from FedEx.
In that light, just get whatever it is you want, and just take comfort in knowing that the next thing you get down the road will be 'better' than what alot of other people have right now.
In the 'regular' world, where not everyone is a 'tech geek' like me, still think the 5800 is something from the future or only something Batman owns! LOL

Capacitive glass touch screen != silky smooth interface.
Look at the Samsung F480 if you want proof that having a capacitive touch-screen doesn't do much if your UI is slow as dogs balls.
