Samsung Propel Pro goes on sale at AT&T
Say you're a little too grow'd up for the Propel -- where does a text-centric Samsung fan on AT&T turn next? That was a pretty hard question to answer until today, because the smartphone remix of said phone -- the Propel Pro -- has now launched at retail. The ultra high-gloss slider with full QWERTY features a 3 megapixel camera, HSDPA, Windows Mobile 6.1, and a perfectly square 320 x 320 display for $149.99 on contract after rebate -- a tough sell against the cheaper E71x, perhaps, but hey, if you're the WinMo type, the E71x never even crossed your mind.

No touch-screen...blargh!

Typical comment from someone who haven't ever used Windows Mobile Standard (that is - non touchscreen) device. :-)

looks pretty cool!!!

Why does AT&T do this? There are better options in the WinMo line to be had. They always seem to stay a step behind and then they release something like this! Get with it AT&T, get into the game and instead of staying on the sidelines and watching.
You had your chance with the Touch Pro 2 and blew that one. Now we have to wait for you to get up to speed with an 800 x 480 screen touchscreen phone.
Tell me you're going to rebrand the Touch Pro 2 and then I'll be happy!

WTF? What are you on crack? Touch Pro 2 isn't even available yet, and will most likely replace the Fuze later this year. If you were paying attention in this industry, you would have known that the AT&T TP2 was on HTC's leaked 2009 lineup. So what if you don't want the propel pro, other people like WM standard.

Every time I see a shiny new handset and start to like it, I walk away shaking my head when I realize it's got Winmo...I'm with you.

That actually looks really nice....
Xoxidine @ Apr 14th 2009 3:24PM
Is it just me or does that look like its running WM 6.5? That bubble over the time reminds me of some screens I saw floating around.
RCC2k8 @ Apr 14th 2009 4:07PM
@craig: The fact that it doesn't have a touchscreen is one of its nicest points. Not everybody wants an iPhone or an iPhone-wannabe.
@Xoxidine: That's Windows Mobile 6.1. The sliding panels UI was introduced in WinMo 6.1 for non-touchscreen devices. It'll make its debut on touchscreen devices with WinMo 6.5.

If they didn't waste so much space with logos they could fit a portrait display in there (at least from all the wasted space on the front, there still might not be room inside the case, but it looks pretty stupid with the acres of bezel).

What exactly is the difference between the Propel and the Propel Pro, besides the Pro comes in silver only?
randy @ Apr 25th 2009 12:24AM
to my knowledge the propel is full QWERTY keyboard slider great for media and texting, not a Window's Mobile phone. [Ya know sync with email, calendar, tasks, etc. ] The Pro is a metal casing with the Propel 1.0 is plastic.
