AT&T's done us all a favor by doing its own quick hands-on of three of its more hotly-anticipated devices in its just-announced
spring lineup -- the Nokia E71x along with Samsung's Propel Pro and Impression -- and putting together a little video of the action. Our lovely host Seth (if that is, in fact, his real name) gets ushered to the rear of a corporate-owned store before opening where the new devices lie in wait, and while us lay folk won't be able to buy any of these for a few days, the dude's able to give us a quick video tour of each unit's finer points. Each of the three devices looks exactly as you'd expect it to, but notably, the Impression's AMOLED touchscreen really seems to shine (literally) with an insane viewing angle and an almost paper-like appearance; in fact, if he hadn't changed screens, we'd almost have thought he was playing with a dummy unit. Follow the break for the video (don't worry, the stuff's in the back).

Is the "impression" a precursor to the Omnia HD?
drewsky @ Mar 30th 2009 11:04AM
Not really. It has the same AMOLED display, but the Omnia HD screen resolution will be
higher and the software will be somewhat different. But the Impression looks really cool!

Just out of curiosity what store was that, and why did the manager let him and the camera crew into the inventory room... That's a great way to give people your floor plan and get your store compromised.

You realize that AT&T produced this video, right?

"Hey it's Seth, I'm one of the guys who works with bloggers at AT&T..."

It's the corporate store on 6th Ave and either 15th or 16th street in Manhattan.

Does the Impression rock the newest version of TouchWiz (the one announced at MWC), or is it using the same edition as the Eternity?
drewsky @ Mar 30th 2009 3:02PM
same as eternity
runningmanvr6 @ Mar 30th 2009 12:17PM
what about the blackberry 8900?

the phone is pretty sweet...i've had a hands on look at it as well... quick touch reactions, on screen keyboard or slide out keyboard depending on preference is tight. the bluetooth menu is nice, the scroll thru of contacts and pictures similar to the iphone works for one that doens't wanna do the whole data package on an iphone... its a at&t sidekick fight i would say
Dunch @ Mar 30th 2009 3:14PM
Does anyone know if the touchscreen for the Impression is capacitive or resistive?
glegos27 @ Mar 30th 2009 4:00PM
Why is the Impression so much more? Is it really just the screen? it is like a Glyde on steroids.
warpa4 @ Mar 30th 2009 5:00PM
i don't understand why i can't have some of those extra gadgets on my eternity?
it had almost 7 more.
but with no headphone jack it's a no no for me.
P-LO @ Mar 31st 2009 12:53PM
It might have a few more gadgets than the eternity, but the eternity still have the mobile tv that the impression doesn't have...
Only thing that i don't like about the impression so far is the lock/unlock button, but i'm sure the more i test it out the more chance i might find more things wrong with it... only time will tell
