Is this Motorola's Android-powered Touch ZINE HD?
Better shots and rumored specs have emerged of that mysterious Moto slate we saw a few days back, and if this all checks out, it's pretty much exactly what Motorola needs to be doing to earn the gadget-loving world's respect and admiration right now -- but there are a few holes in the story that have us concerned. First off, it's alleged that this monster is going to be called the Touch ZINE HD, and considering the phone's uncanny resemblance to HTC's Touch HD, the name seems a little too close for comfort. Secondly, it's said that it'll do 1080p video playback via HDMI, but the collection of leaked images shows the phone connected to a composite RCA cable, which isn't gonna cut it for 1080p -- and we're not buying that the display itself is going to be capable of that kind of resolution. That all being said, let's suspend reality for just a moment and enjoy this list of monstrous specs: Android, Tegra, 5 megapixel cam with HD video, and 16GB of onboard storage. Moto, let's put it this way: if this isn't real, can whatever it is you're working on right this second and do precisely this instead.

funyun2 @ Mar 3rd 2009 12:00AM
Oh my God, I just came. This is odd, Motorola actually making a cool phone, and there's another legit Android Phone.
Joel Lisenby @ Mar 3rd 2009 12:26AM
Nice. Does this have dual cameras? What is that on the top right? Here's some advice for all carriers: Releasing an android phone needs to be at the top of your list of things to do NOW.
Tito @ Mar 3rd 2009 12:45AM
If this heads to T-Mobile, I'm definitely getting one! :-)
David Wanat @ Mar 3rd 2009 12:57AM
Just to finish the dream that this is a real moto phone, let us imagine it on Verizon. Android on Verizon, on a nice phone. Short of the LTE iPhone, who could ask for more?
dave @ Mar 3rd 2009 1:03AM
Sprint did say that android will be something there looking at, they also have a relationship with moto. who knows, but that is one bad a@# looking phone.
Eric @ Mar 3rd 2009 1:13AM

justin @ Mar 3rd 2009 1:27AM
is it just me or does the last sentence not make sense? "Moto, let's put it this way: if this isn't real, can whatever it is you're working on right this second and do precisely this instead."
Chris Ziegler @ Mar 3rd 2009 1:32AM
No, it does. (Of course, I'm biased since I wrote it.)
jonathan @ Mar 3rd 2009 1:38AM
"Can," as in, "throw away" what they're working on, basically, if it isn't this phone.
takashisenke @ Mar 3rd 2009 1:53AM
Lens flare FTW

Question. Is Yury related to Oleg?
JamesR @ Mar 3rd 2009 3:52AM
This is the Android phone of my dreams ... Minus a QWERTY keyboard.
Would buy.
CapnShiner @ Mar 3rd 2009 4:51AM
I'm noticing a trend in Android-based phone development towards not having a physical keypad at all. I know touch screens are the big thing right now and Cupcake has a virtual QWERTY, but there are plenty of people who prefer a physical QWERTY keypad, myself included. The G1 has a physical QWERTY, but the implementation is less than ideal with that big "chin" on one side. I think the perfect form factor is something like the Touch Pro(or Touch Pro 2) or N97, but the way the Pre does it works too. I'd settle for a Voyager or Sidekick form factor if I had to. I just want to see Android on a good QWERTY phone. This rumored Motorola phone just seems like more of the same.
rita hainsworth @ Mar 3rd 2009 5:07AM
....and you cant see the keyboard in the dark.
Who? @ Mar 3rd 2009 2:38PM
@rita: What are you talking about? The AT&T Tilt's keyboard is backlit.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Mar 3rd 2009 4:16PM
i cant remember coming across ANY phone with a physical QWERTY keypad that isn't back lit. what are you talking about rita?
Silver @ Mar 3rd 2009 5:05AM
Sadly it's fake: http://digg.com/gadgets/Leaked_Motorola_android_phone_is_a_FAKE
Wesley @ Mar 3rd 2009 9:09AM
I don't usually like Motorola phones, but if this is real and has Nvidia's Tegra chip, Android OS and cool looking camera, then I want to buy it now!
Doug @ Mar 3rd 2009 9:14AM
If this fake, it would be a shame. I dont understand why a company just cant develop something like this and get it released within a timely manner. Does it really take that long?
info @ Mar 3rd 2009 3:14PM
It actually does take that long. If a phone was completely done today and ready for production, there are still about 6 months worth of testing. The manufacturer has to do some testing, than there are field tests, and than the carrier tests (which take a long time). Some of the tests can be sped up, but regression testing is just time consuming and can't be done any faster.
Oh, and none of that includes the time to design the phone, port the software, fix any problems, and than build the production capable phones.
Billy @ Mar 3rd 2009 10:14AM
If its real: Pretty cool phone, especially for Moto. gotta love the tiny bezel around the screen. hd is a plus
if its fake: Then I would understand seeing as how its relevent to Moto
JCinCo @ Mar 4th 2009 9:36PM
This actually brought a tear to me eyes...it's just so beautiful!
gunner23 @ Mar 3rd 2009 5:24PM
It's fake. Damnit!!! See post of 3/3/09.
Mike @ Mar 4th 2009 12:51PM
no no....it's not fake
intoler8 @ Mar 5th 2009 2:52AM
I don't think its fake. Just because there are Moto phones out there with similar features, looks etc, doesnt mean diddly. Motorola and all phone manufacturers are notorious for stealing lines and cues from their other devices that have been released etc. This allows for some parts to work with other devices and is done as a cost saving measure. But we will never know until we hear something from Motorola.
xer0N @ Mar 17th 2009 3:31AM
I didn't see this phone from Moto and i don't think it's fake. but i have saw the real moto android samples are much pretty than this one. if you see the pictures and the specs later on, u will be amazing!
