Nokia's N97 spotted online, gets ugly price and date?

It seems eXpansys is on a roll with new sets, dates, and pricing as Nokia's flagship N97 device gets on the board for a mind numbing $1075. Sure, it has quad-band GSM, triple-band HSDPA, 32GB of storage, and just about every other bell and whistle imaginable, but that hurts. When it ships on the 23rd June -- that's IF it ships that day -- we're hoping the price will have wandered south a fair bit, because that'll hurt even with a carrier subsidy -- though, yeah, we know we'll still line up. Follow the read link to Ireland's eXpansys shop if you want to have a more detailed peek, shed a few tears, or something.

Ouch, $1000? why nokia? WHY!
JamesR @ Mar 2nd 2009 4:22AM
It's a recession, that means we have more disposable income!
Wait ... Am I getting my words mixed up again?
Fernando @ Mar 1st 2009 8:48PM
I love the little hands characters.
But just btw, expansis' prices are always high and inaccurate for phones that aren't out, it has always been that way.
marsromangod @ Mar 1st 2009 9:22PM
bull$#!t ... ripping off people ... you should be ashamed of yourself you little leprechaun.
Kwikit @ Mar 1st 2009 10:20PM
1000 seems 500+ too high for a device that offers what this does. Not that the phone is bad, but the economy worldwide sucks and spending 1000 on a phone seems irresponsible. Just can't and I will not justify it for myself.
Sarig @ Mar 2nd 2009 4:46AM
There's a good thing there's about a million phones that are cheaper, and this is a flagship phone then.
Kwikit @ Mar 2nd 2009 7:47AM
You are right. But to me, the features don't justify the price. The Touch HD is about the price I'd expect. for this.. 600 - 800 depending on where and when you decide to buy. I cannot knock Nokia though,,, they seem to price their phones kower than other companies. Look at the E71. I wish them luck with the phone whatever price they set.

exactly!!!!!!!!
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Mar 1st 2009 10:57PM
i know people say that smartphones will never be huge in comparison to dumbphones and this is exactly why. i'll always use smartphones personally but i will never pay that much for a phone and i doubt many others would either, especially when they can get phones that make calls for free with a contract. sure it does alot of stuff, but at the end of the day, it's a phone, and $1000 is WAY too much to pay for a phone that will most likely be glitchy off the bat and has a high tendency to get broken, dropped, or lost. as someone above me said, it's just irresponsible.
Steven @ Mar 1st 2009 10:59PM
Can it make me sammiches? Because if it don't I don't think I'm buying.
ale @ Mar 1st 2009 11:26PM
Wait so it won't be out AT ALL until summer?
Why do some stores claim to have it and the Samsung Omnia HD?
Are they just fake stores or scams?
I mean,I'm guessing they are
I thought both phones were coming out this summer but they claim to have it..

Expect it to be around 600eu once it hits the streets, falling quickly in the months after.
I would imagine it to be £79 + 2year contract in UK, most likely T-mobile and 3.
zane @ Mar 1st 2009 11:30PM
Understand, everyone, this is the price charged to rip off the early adopters, price to adopt something early, not the ACTUAL device of the phone once it is widely available.
It will be around 500-600$, and it IS worth it.
Ashu @ Mar 1st 2009 11:48PM
what???
844.99 Euros???
They must be out of their minds. Anyways, their strategy has always been like this. Even if, they get 500 guys lured into this, they are done and then get the prices south.
Shame on you...
Scout650 @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:28AM
Ouch!! That's one expensive Nokia! Nice phone and all but not sure if its worth that much. Oh well, I happy with my N85.
takashisenke @ Mar 2nd 2009 2:17AM
Really? Expansys?
My friend's kind of always bought foreign phones at handtec.
http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/1645/nokia-n97
It's like... 600 Euro. 754 Dollars.
Eternal @ Mar 2nd 2009 3:22AM
Lets hope thats an error in price... i certainly know i wont pay that much for any phone. I could buy other things with that amount of cash
Avatar @ Mar 2nd 2009 7:19AM
The price of the handset is insane. coupled with the fact that some UK carriers are already upset that they may loose revenue due to the skype client coming with the handset out of the box. there is a real risk that this may be shunned by some carriers...
then again "3" embrace skype and its forward thinking. Im sure that once the handset comes out the price will be far more sensible. Expansys isnt the best prices out there for unlocked handsets.
I have personally put in a pre order with Play.com which is at 649 uk pounds. Its all guestimate prices at the moment but suspect that we will see a "real" price as the release date gets closer.
daki @ Mar 3rd 2009 12:30PM
I have to say that I care more about the date then the price, it shouldent come as a suprice that this phone will be very pricy. With contracts it's not a big deal.
Ravnos @ Mar 2nd 2009 12:00PM
Any North Americans here should take a look at the other number there (695.47), because it's probably the price without VAT. Remember, Europeans have to pay ridiculous taxes on everything and we don't. That brings the price down to a more manageable US$875, which is expensive, but not $1075 expensive. And someone else posted a link that brought the price down even further. Seriously, this phone isn't going to cost $1075, at least not for North Americans.

Too much for now. - wait till the newness wears off and any discovered probs ID/fixed.
rifter @ Mar 2nd 2009 9:26PM
Why the hell do they release these expensive as items during a global recession. I realize it was probably in dev long before the recession, but come on really? Who do they expect to buy these other than Hollywood yahoos. Most of the people who have disposible incomes for this wouldn't even know how to use it let alone buy it.
Its not "cool" enough for some of those people. Most probably have a crackberry or whatever new fancy flip phone that doesn't even trickle down to the middle class "uncouth" due to costs.
Stacy @ Mar 3rd 2009 2:30AM
Is Nokia N97 a SIP phone ? Using Nokia e71 it’s a SIP phone and having issues while using two VoIP services Vopium and Nimbuzz. My phone get stuck whenever i tried to load any of them. Have any one of you tried these VoIP applications on Nokia N97?
Paul Campbell @ Mar 10th 2009 11:58PM
Why y'all don't stop complaining? This phone is not meant for you. I have been longing for a phone like this to brag with. A phone that regular people can't afford and therefore won't be everywhere. Thank you Nokia.
