Complementing
TechFaith's and
General Mobile's offerings, SIM Technology came to MWC with a very, very rough remix of its Windows Mobile-based U1 running Android. Before you blow it off, check it: you're getting quadband EDGE plus tri-band HSDPA, 3 megapixel primary and VGA secondary cams, AGPS, WiFi, TV-out, microSD expansion, and a 2.8-inch VGA display. Almost perfect on paper, isn't it? It's not the prettiest handset in the world, but if these guys are the first in town to come to market with a fully functional VGA Android device that works unlocked on North American bands, we know a few hundred dollars that are just waiting to find a good home. Right now, the device is strictly a proof of concept -- the touchscreen doesn't exactly "work" yet -- but we're sure they'll have something ready to ship shortly.

Yes, it looks perfect on paper, but is the screen capacative or resistive? And can you boot both OSs? Or do you need to reinstall it to switch like other multi-OS phones?

I am very sure it is a resistive touchscreen, as the device runs Windows Mobile, too - which is pretty unusable with a capacitive touchscreen.

Well, don't forget about the OpenMoko Neo FreeRunner, which has a VGA Display as well - the hardware is on the market, and we will see "Cupcake" builds on it soon, Koolu is working on it.
In fact there is mostly working Android 1.0 on it already, but due to the hacked-in keyboard it isn't that usable (example: you have to copy and paste to enter your WPA2 key) ...

Is there not a SINGLE developer out there for the past 6 months, that was able to modify the Android code so the background fills the VGA screen and exposes more when swiped right and left?
Is it that hard? All VGA devices showing Android had this same problem.
