LG affirms that 12 megapixel cameraphone is in the works
Here at MWC, the only cellphone maker to actually come forward with proof of a 12 megapixel phone was Sony Ericsson. Still, you know that everyone else is apt to follow suit as quickly as possible, and it seems that LG will be one of the first. In fact, said company "absolutely" has a 12 megapixeler in the works. That's according to Jeremy Newing, LG Mobile's head of marketing in the UK, who also proclaimed that the KS360 would be LG's first Android phone. In his words: "We'll very much be releasing a 12MP cameraphone. However, it's important that people realize when taking 12MP images, they'll be using huge amounts of data, and it will be more difficult to do things like send such files." Honestly, we're a bit tired of the megapixel race -- get an optical zoom onto a slim cellphone, and then we'll talk.

I could care less about 12mpxl on my phone. Heck I don't even want 12 mpxl on my stand alone camera. I just want solid low light non blurry pictures of at least 5mpxl.

Forget the camera, I want that strawberry milkshake!

So what's next? A 14MP phone?
Really, I'm tired about MP too. Those R&D team should focus more on other features like image stabilizer, super wide angle or at least a premium class lens... because at the end, picture quality will win the battle, not MP size.

Ditto, But as long as people THINK it's worth something, they'll shell out premium $$$. I agree, give me 3mpx and good low light and killer color and image quality anyday. I'm not going to be making photos for a 90' billboard here. Let's see now, a 16gb Micro SD will hold about 13 photos now I guess. :-)

The memoir is a Samsung phone...isn't it?

Actually, I think it's a good idea. I'm waiting for Samsung to come out with the 18MP cameraphone, where it can take X-rays from a mile away behind a 12" thick wall, 12 feet underground; and take close-up shots of the Milky Way from my basement with the lens cap on, and be able to beam crystal clear pics of it to my future self.
Seriously though, 12MPs in a cameraphone? 5MP to 8 MPs (w/ Xenon Flash) in a cameraphone is fine (for me). But then again, Samsung is known for pushing the technology envelope.

hahah as long as it has that xenon flash ;)

I'm making the switch to Samsung for all the added features in their cameraphone as opposed to Nokia's noticeable lack of development in their camera department. The N95 took great pictures with the 5mp shooter, but I don't want to take those same pictures in 2009, especially when everyone else can up the standard to 8mp and add things like face recognition, blink detection, and smile shutter.
If they designed them with better optics and the aforementioned features, I wouldn't care if it was a 3mp camera, but it seems you can only find them on the 8mp cameras now.

i'll have what she's having.
delishous.
