Milestone release of Firefox Mobile "Fennec" goes live on the Touch Pro
Have a Touch Pro? Like surfing through cyberspace? Well golly, partner, have we got some news for you: Fennec is finally waiting for you on a silver platter. The mobile version of Firefox is still very early on in its development process, but an official pre-beta release is now ready for download -- so if you can put down IE Mobile for just a couple second, have a go at it. Odds are you won't be using it for your day-in and day-out browsing just yet, but it's nice to see what's coming down the pike.

I love you guys here at Engadget Mobile, don't get me wrong, but I think this is the type of news that should be on Engadget proper. This is big stuff!
Benzodiazepine @ Feb 11th 2009 2:40AM
No, it's ok.
No one gets you wrong, really.

Hmmm, tried with Opera and IE Mobile from my phone. The FTP server doesn't have the MIME types set to handle .cab files.
You'd think Mozilla of all people would be aware of such things.

Not sure why or how - that this is just for the HTC touch pro... Shouldnt it work on any phone running WinMo ???

Touch Pro users needing to "put down" IE Mobile when there's Opera on almost every TP ever made? Is that some sort of shit-for-brains joke? Really?

its not a big day cuz the piece of junk doesnt even work.
it takes forever to download
forever to install
the opening screen doesnt loaded just looks like a checkers board. then closes automatically and yes im using a touch pro.
peil @ Feb 11th 2009 1:25PM

Memo @ Feb 11th 2009 11:35AM
It wasn't posted here, but on an earlier post that it was coming out it said it was for the GSM version TP only and not CDMA yet. They use different processors.

myro255 @ Feb 12th 2009 11:39AM
I have a Fuze, and yes the Fuze is GSM, confirmed not working, main page wont even load for me. perhaps its a server problem?
Anomoly @ Feb 20th 2009 9:27PM
i dl and installed on my HTC Touch (i know it's for the Touch Pro) took forever to DL and forever to Install... when i booted it literally took a minute or two to startup... and even longer to show the home screen...
ps it took the longest to uninstall... this is not even pre... pre beta/alpha...
Derek @ Feb 11th 2009 9:50AM
What comes before Alpha?
Brian @ Feb 11th 2009 10:14AM
Sweet make it for my iPhone to please. Not that this browser is anything to complain about.
Level 5 @ Feb 12th 2009 10:48AM
I'm sure this will be available for iPhones eventually, if only through jailbreak. I'd be rooting for Opera though, since the company has an iPhone version already working; I'd say it could very well wind up being the first Flash enabled browser for the iPhone.
And yeah, nothing but checkered crap on my Sprint TP.
Riley Freeman @ Feb 11th 2009 11:37AM
thanks memo i never saw that on any website. i think thats ridiculous that the antenna plays a factor in the browser working or not but oh well. time to uninstall
Riley Freeman @ Feb 11th 2009 11:42AM

Gadgetmix.com @ Feb 11th 2009 12:05PM
Here is the report of Fennec running on HTC TOUCH PRO. In the report, I've also explained how to run it on HTC DIAMOND:
